Happy Independence Day! Last year I didn't decorate one bit for the Fourth, I was 2 weeks past my shoulder surgery and couldn't even think about getting the tub of flags out and decorating! I love decking everything out in red, white, and blue though so this year I enjoyed dressing our home with the stars and stripes again. Hope you enjoy this little patriotic tour today! SOMETHING I THOUGHT I'D NEVER DO... FAUX POTTED TREES ON THE PATIO
I recently did something I thought I would never do. After one too many of the bushes that I use to fill my large pots on my patio died and needed to be replaced once again, I decided to switch to faux potted trees! For at least 5 years, I've kept green tower boxwoods in these large pots across the back of the patio. I liked having something planted in them that would stay green through the winter, and in the summer I added annuals for some color around the rim of the pot. But after having to replace all of them at various times over the years- usually at around $70 a pop, two more were on their last leg early this Spring and I decided I didn't want to waste any more money on that particular plan. There are some really great faux tree options now, and as much as I cringe at the idea of having faux plants outside, I decided to give them a try. I made a one time investment that was about the same cost of the real bushes that I had been buying- and replacing ......

FIVE FRIDAY FAVORITES
Happy Friday! I have so many good things to share with you, it was hard to stop with 5 favorites today. Some will have to wait for next week's FFF! I've got a bunch of colorful spray painted mini pumpkins but wanted to try some velvet ones this year. This cute set of multi-colored pink ones arrived and I'm smitten! There are a few other color combos available as well, including blue and white, leopard, and some neutrals or jewel tones. Velvet Pumpkin Set || Bead Garland || Lamp Tassels I shared a while back that I'm doing a little accessory makeover on the patio. I waited for months for some pillow fabric to arrive that had been backordered, and when it did I liked it so much that I'm going to use it indoors instead. However, I've been trying out lots of pillow covers from Amazon in the mean time. You all know that I make most of my own pillows, so I also wanted to find some good ones to recommend if you'd rather not ......

DIY PAINTED BRICK EXTERIOR FIREPLACE TUTORIAL
When we remodeled our patio three years ago, a brick outdoor fireplace was one addition we knew we wanted to incorporate. Unfortunately, the brick used on our over 20 year old home exterior was no longer being made, so I chose new brick that was as close of a match to the original as I could get. The color was similar, but the new didn't have the patina that our original brick has and the slight difference in material always just bothered me a bit. Early this year I finally made up my mind to just paint it, and now I only wish I had done it sooner! Here's a quick recap of how we painted our exterior brick fireplace. It's such a straightforward project, and I would use this same process for interior or exterior brick. *This post may contain affiliate links, which means I might make a small commission at no extra cost to you. STYLISH PATIO UMBRELLAS
In Friday's post I mentioned that I'm getting the patio all ready for Summer. I've been thinking about adding one more seating area, and yesterday ordered 2 chaise lounges to put in the front corner of the patio that is not covered. Many times on cooler days it's nice to sit in the warmth of the sun, but I plan to use my black and white striped patio umbrella between the two chairs if we'd like to add some shade during the hot Summer months. We've had the hanging chair in that spot off and on but it's really better out of the sun and I think the chaises will be more comfortable and accommodating. ...

THIS HOUSE: OUR HOME FOR 10 YEARS
We can hardly believe it, but this month marks our 10th anniversary of living in this house. My parents have never moved since they married almost 50 years ago, so I always lived in the same house growing up. After marrying, we moved around a bit, but this is the longest I've ever lived in a house other than my childhood home. My husband's dad is a pastor, so they moved around throughout his childhood and our current home is the one he's lived in the longest in his life. So, it's quite a milestone for many reasons! ...
