Tuesday Cuppa Tea - Cranberries and Seagulls - Labor Day

Hi and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea. Surprise, surprise, a bit hectic around here....surprise company from out of state, a few last summer jaunts around and even some family again. But the more the merrier!!!

I hope your summer is winding down nicely and you are enjoying the Labor Day weekend...sort of the last hurrah for this summer. Some of our schools are back in and some will be on Tuesday...amazing....as this posts...hopefully...we will be in Victoria, BC Canada where we are meeting Canadian friends for a long weekend...but more of that later!

My teacup this week is a tea mug from Emma Bridgewater in her Birds Series. The pattern is Black Headed Gull, which is an English version of the common seagull we have here by the droves. Some are big enough to be small turkeys and frighten the cat...But the post started because of my afternoon tea, taken in the sun room with a new Laura Childs tea shop mystery I found at the library...

The English Breakfast Mystery, which is the 4th in the very fun series. I hadn't read it. So as I got out my tea, I decided a fall herbal was in order, and chose Celestial Seasonings Cranberry Cove with it's lovely red color and tart/sweet flavor...perfect with a Tea Shop mystery....

Her website describes the book as:

THE ENGLISH BREAKFAST MURDER
Tea Shop Mystery #4
 http://www.laurachilds.com/teashopmys.html
The English Breakfast Murder
Order Now
Dawn is about to break at South Carolina's Halliehurst Beach, and the members of Charleston's Sea Turtle Protection League are taking part in the annual "turtle crawl."  As they help hundreds of tiny green loggerheads tumble safely into the surf, the dedicated volunteers congratulate themselves with a well-earned shore breakfast.  But as the tea steeps and the gumbo simmers, a strange mass is spotted floating off-shore.  Donning mask and swim fins, Theodosia paddles out to investigate, only to discover a dead body bobbing in the waves.  The hapless victim turns out to be Harper Fisk, a prominent Charleston art dealer and passionate collector of Civil War antiquities.  Rumors of sunken treasure and gold bullion have abounded, yet nothing has ever been found near Halliehurst Beach.  But now Theodosia begins to wonder--did Harper Fisk finally stumble upon something?  And was he killed because of it?

and I really enjoyed reading it...there are even recipes in the back....but back to tea....so, I used my Emma Bridgewater Black Headed Gull mug...

I first got hooked on Emma Bridgewater because of her name being the same as my English grandmother. She was first covered in Victoria magazine in 1989 I think, and we began then visiting her pottery in Stoke-on-Trent on each yearly English visit. Love her things!  I am glad to report she is still successfully making her pottery, all in England. Brilliant, Emma!

The other part of my tea post is the Cranberry Cove tea tin...I have several...that were included in tea packages of the named Celestial Seasonings tea in the 1980s.

I keep them on the counter stocked with the appropriate tea. Cranberry Cove seems to be a New England thing, but actually one of the largest cranberry bogs is on the Pacific Coast in Bandon, Oregon. We used to holiday there frequently when we lived for several years in Ashland, Oregon. Here is a picture we took of a cranberry harvester at work. They have a large annual Cranberry festival which is quite fun to visit...cranberry everything you can think of!

So...the cranberry tea made me think of our times in Bandon and the seagulls there and , voila, a seagull mug post! Oh...and I had a friend while I was taking my tea out to the sunroom. Not a good photo of Tinker, but it's hard to catch a constantly-in-motion cat...and a black and white one at that...correctly....

As I mentioned, we are currently in Victoria, BC this weekend so will be late visiting and replying to comments, for which I apologize in advance. Here are some of the blogs I will be joining...

Here is the Linky, and remember it is SSLOOOOOOWW but it will appear! We would love to hear from you and have you link up your tea and teacup related posts...

Another Winter Olympics...Vancouver 2010 Flashback

As the Olympics continue in Sochi, Russia, I came across a few photos I had from the Vancouver, Canada 2010 Winter Olympics that I thought I'd share for fun. We were visiting our friends in Richmond, just south of Vancouver and New Westminster to the east of Vancouver just before the games and a few months prior.

This was taken by our friend from Stanley Park, just across the bay from Canada Place. The fuel barge you usually see had been outfitted with the Olympic Rings for the duration of the games in February 2010.

This is foot traffic during the games on Robson Street downtown, leading to the Olympic Plaza. The weather was often nice. This was sent by the friend in Richmond whose daughter lives downtown....

This is the Olympic Cauldron at Coal Harbor, just down from Canada Place during the games...

This is the Olympic Oval speed skating venue in Richmond, about a mile from our friends house. We took this photo a month before the games on a visit....

This photo I took of my husband...in the front...and his best friend Harvey...in the back, on a bobsled used in the Olympics when we visited Harvey in New Westminster in May. We headed up to Whistler, where the ski venues had been and we had visited judt before the games just to see what things looked like. A great few days just knocking around with a dear friend...

Brought bacvk lots of memories, and so glad I came across the photos!

And here's another Olympic piece by Bing & Grondahl, Denmark from Munich 1972 at Antiques And Teacups At Etsy....

Tuesdsay Cuppa Tea, Royal Albert Rosebud Swags, Breakfast For Tea

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

So many fun things to share this week! First of all, I'll share my teacup choice this week...a Royal Albert Crown China teacup trio. Royal Albert Crown China was, of course the older version and mark of our well known and well loved Royal Albert.

This lovely hand painted rosebud swag pattern was made at the end of the Edwardian period, about 1910 and you can certainly see the delicate and lovely Edwardian sensibility. I can just see the girls having tea using this china at Downton Abbey. I just love it!  Royal Albert Crown and Royal Albert were made by Thomas Wild & Sons, and the Crown was dropped from the Royal Albert name in the 1930s. A wonderful company. Royal Albert was acquired by Royal Doulton in 1990 and is still being made, though most production was moved to Indonesia in 2002. Sigh...
The teacup trio is available at Antiques And Teacups...just click on the photos for more info.

I wanted to share the WONDERFUL gift I won in a giveaway given by Stephanie at The Enchanting Rose.

The fabulous gift was 3 packs of gorgeous hand crafted cut work note cards, a beautiful hand made card, the cutest little owl and the most glorious and warm Fair Isle fringed scarf. And it's been in the 40s, so guess what I've been wearing????   Thanks you Stephanie for your generosity and my cozy neck! If you have a chance, please visit Stephanie and her lovely blog. Gorgeous photographs!

This is a bit different for tea, but...when we were visiting our friend Gloria in Richmond just outside of Vancouver BC recently, she took us to her favorite restaurant for a late lunch, which we called our tea for the day. The restaurant is a bit of a landmark in several parts of Canada and is know for fresh foods and original presentation. I managed to actually remember to take a few photos, which I usually don't do.

The placemat is an explanation of Cora's innovative philosophy with lots of different takes on familiar favorites and some original choices. The restaurant is covered with antiques and quirky little vignettes...most of which I DID forget to photograph. Rats! A fun thing, is watching them cook through a glass wall if you have to wait for a table.

We all ordered breakfast items which are served all day although it was about 3 in the afternoon. I guess it's being on holiday...Anyway, above is my husband's Mushroom Benedict with home fries. Notice the fruit tower in the center. The apples were cut like palm trees.

Next is Gloria's fruit plate with cottage cheese and English muffin bread toast/

And finally my 2 poached eggs with bacon, toast and blueberry crepes. Everything was delicious! For more info on Cors's or to find her other restaurants, go to www.chezcora.com. It was FABULOUS and we plan to eat there each time we visit Gloria.

Also...a quick tea report. I recently found a tin of Assam teabags at Ross from a company called Nottingham that I had never heard of. Feeling adventurous, I bought it, and would like to report it was quite nice. A product of Sri Lanka, the tea is a nice black tea that is very enjoyable, so if you see it...try it...you'll like it!

Here are some of the blogs I will be joining, that you will enjoy visiting as well. Then there is the wonderful linky for your tea related posts. It is so fun to visit you all and see your current tea adventures! Have a lovely day, and don't forget to have a cuppa with a friend!

Canada Coat Of Arms Teacup, Vancouver, BC and Tea At Sea

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!   I hope you had a lovely weekend. Ours was gorgeous with mild fall weather...once the morning marine layer/fog disappears. See my previous post for what that looks like!

The Tuesday Cuppa Tea linky and the blogs I am joining is at the bottom of the post.

My teacup today is a Canadian souvenir cup and saucer featuring the coat of arms for Canada...or at least that's what it's called. I hope my Canadian friends can tell me if it really is. I love the fish and thistles on it! The maker is the famous Royal Winton Grimwades, England and the teacups was made between 1934-1942. The company is famous for it's art deco designs, Cottage ware and chintz, but this is a fun departure. I found this a few years ago in Vancouver, BC Canada, which is why I chose it for today.

Last month, we were able to do an Alaska cruise on the Celebrity Millenium from Canada Place in Vancouver, BC.  What a deal we got! I couldn't believe it! Cheaper than staying home. WooHoo!!!!

Stanley Park and the seawall...

Onboard we loved the Olympic specialty restaurant onboard, which is named Olympic after the sister ship of the Titanic. The Olympic was also a White Star Line ocean liner built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast Ireland in 1910. White Star ultimately became Cunard. The dining room has the original paneling and murals from the Olympic. I have found a YouTube video with more info about how the dining room, the Olympic specialty restauraunt came to be on the Celebrity Millennium:

We were invited to a tea in the Olympic restaurant, and I share here a few photos of that. We were so busy talking to friends I forgot until the end to take photos. Also, some of the original Olympic artifacts were in glass cases and did not photograph well. Sigh...

So there you have it. Next week I'll share about our glacier viewing and bear hunt!

Here is the  linky for Tuesday Cuppa Tea and the list of some of the blogs I am joining. Have a great day, and don't forget to have a cup of tea with a friend!
