Russian Children's Literature

In her article, “Soviet Children’s Books in Europe and the USA in the 1920–1930s”, Olga Maeots suggests that the 1920s is a period of avant-garde experiment in Soviet children's books, when both form and content had undergone a radical renovation. Modernistic experiments in illustration and book design and new social values incorporated into children's literature had drastically changed children’s books in the USSR and in the world. Thin, bright-colored picture books on cheap paper were appreciated all around the world and served not only as “ambassadors of cultural diplomacy” that told about life in Soviet Russia, but also as “agents of artistic influence”. They gave impulse to the development of the modern picture book in Europe and the USA. Twentieth-century American children's literature offers an extraordinary showcase of American-European cultural interaction, begun between the world wars and booming after 1945 with the growth of huge postwar markets and a politically ascendant, refugee-absorbing United States.  The essay examines this sophisticated and exploitative collaboration through the professional experience and artistic production of Russian émigré artists in America.  More than any other European émigré group, the Russians tried out the American cultural extremes of commercial standardization and quirky cultural refuge, and the exchange haphazardly benefited both sides.

Одной из характерных особенностей творчества московского поэта Тимура Кибирова считается интертекстуальность. В статье рассматривается богатый «детский» интертекстуальный пласт в стихотворениях Кибирова до 2009 г., выявляются концептуальные функции «детских» ссылок в разные периоды его творчества. В ранних произведениях происходит отсылка к идеологически наполненным текстам для детей с целью деконструкции советской мифологии. В стихотворениях последующих периодов классическая русская и зарубежная детская литература, наоборот, служит конструированию собственного идеологического содержания. Стихотворение-манифест «Только детские книжки
читать...» (1998) ставит детскую литературу выше Набокова и Джойса.

The analysis of Russian children's literature at the nursery and pre-school levels demonstrates the pervasiveness of gender-specific and cognitive models. Particularly clear is the association of certain diminutives with female language. among other gendered features are: patterns of interaction with the world, concerns, values, and degrees of individuation. insufficiently masculine language is associated with artistic, negatively portrayed and/or immature males. Commands and requests exhibit an interesting complex pattern as well.

Во введении к архивному блоку делается попытка рассмотреть развитие послереволюционной поэзии для детей с точки зрения литературоведческих исследований того времени.

Настойчивое стремление таких формалистов, как Юрий Тынянов и Борис Эйхенбаум, видеть в литературе автономную область речевой деятельности отразилось в детской поэзии в виде четко выраженного желания определиться с ее собственной спецификой.

Как утверждали критики того времени, «детским» в поэзии должны быть не только темы, но и сама организация поэтического материала. Специально выработанные методы организации словесной массы должны были отличить детскую поэзию от общей советской литературы в целом.

В итоге к середине 1930-х гг. складываются общие методологические принципы советской поэзии для детей как поэзии игровой, напевной и смеховой. Стихи К. Чуковского и С. Маршака обозначат «песенно-игровой» полюс детской поэзии; в свою очередь, произведения В. Маяковского и А. Барто станут классическими примерами «дидактической» поэзии, в которой сатира и насмешки выступят поэтическими «орудиями воспитания».

Соответственно эволюционизирует и позиция детского поэта: одиночек-аутсайдеров (Чуковский) потеснят «революционные поэты» (Маяковский), системные «попутчики» (Маршак) и классово-закалившиеся «советские детские писатели» (Барто).
