Background: Burnout is a psychological syndrome affecting individuals who work in caring professions, such as nurses and physicians that develops due to long term interpersonal stressors on the job. Burnout as a concept incorporates three components: low personal accomplishment (PA), Depersonalization (DP) and Emotional exhaustion (EE). Workload is an important factor that could lead to burnout. Aim: to explore factors contributing to burnout among Saudi nurses and their effect on patients' satisfaction. Research Design: A cross-sectional design was used for this study. Tools of Data collection: 1) Interviewing Patient's Satisfaction Questionnaire (IPSQ): It was adapted from Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale (NSNS) used to measure the patients' satisfaction regarding nursing care provided.2) Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) consisted of three parts: Part 1: Nurses' socio-demographic characteristics as regards their age in year, level of education. Part 2: Work Conditions contains 21 questions about her work condition. Part 3: Burnout Inventory consists of 22 items. Setting: The current study was conducted in five selected hospitals at Makkah Al-Mukaramah. Results: Revealed that, the majority of nurses (82.5 %) aged from (20-<30) years and more than two thirds of nurses (69.3%) had diploma degree. It was found that less than three quarters (71.6 %) of nurses had high levels of burnout. There was cooperation between nurses and physician in patient care with Mean and SD of (3.23 ± 1.49). Also there is statistically significant positive correlation between hospital duration and work duration with (r = 0.812 and P-value = 0.001). Patients were satisfied with nurses' fulfillment for their needs and nursing care activities with Mean and SD of (20.81 ± 4.05). Recommendations: Establishing communication skills training programs among health care team to reduce nurses' burnout. Continued administrative support, reinforcement as well as changing work place environment to reduce nurses' job burnout and to improve patients' satisfaction with care. [Sahar M. Zaki, Lamiaa A. Nursing Informatics (NI) is defines as "the integration of nursing, its information and information management with information processing and communication technology to support the health of people worldwide. Nursing informatics is key to effective decision making. Whereas, powerful communication technology enables the secure transmission of information among health care service organizational and professional.So, nurses are expected to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care in an increasingly technical and digital environment.Objective:to determine the impact of nursing informatics and the use of information systems to improve the quality and safety of patient care. Results:review of article showed that there is a positive trends of nurses toward using of nursing informatics that are the foundation for evidence based practice.Conclusion&Recommendations:We can concluded that nursing informatics is so important &nursesshould be engaged with information systems to improve the delivery of care.

Amaç: Çocuk hemşirelerine verilen yenileme eğitiminin, bakım uygulamalarındaki rol ve işlevlerini gerçekleştirme durumuna etkisini değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Tek grup öntest-sontest desende planlanmış bu çalışmanın verileri, Haziran 2012-Ocak 2014 arasında, Kuzey Kıbrıs'taki tüm devlet hastanelerinin çocuk ünitelerinde yapılmıştır. Çalışmaya, bu ünitelerde görevli olan tüm gönüllü hemşireler (n=85) alınmıştır. Çocuk hemşirelerinin rol ve işlevlerini yenileme eğitimi, iki hafta boyunca, dört günde uygulanmıştır. Hemşirelerin rol ve işlevlerini gerçekleştirme durumları, uygulanan eğitim öncesi ve sonrasında çocuk hemşirelerinin rol ve işlevlerini uygulama ölçeğinin puan ortalamaları ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Çocuk hemşirelerinin rol ve işlevlerini uygulamaya ilişkin durumları, eğitim sonrası anlamlı bir artış göstermiştir. İletişim ve iş birliği rolü alt ölçeği puanı üzerinde hemşire yaşının ve danışmanlık rolü alt ölçeği puanı üzerinde ise çalıştığı pozisyonun etkili olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Sonuçlar, çocuk hemşirelerine düzenli ve planlı olarak verilen yenileme eğitiminin, hemşirelerin rol ve işlevlerine yönelik uygulama durumları konusundaki farkındalıklarını artırdığını ve dolayısıyla bakım uygulamalarını pozitif etkileme potansiyeline sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. Materials and Methods: The study was planned as a single-group research with a pretest and posttest, and conducted over the period of June 2012-January 2014 in the children's units of all the state hospitals in Northern Cyprus. All nurses (n=85) working in these units volunteering to participate in the study were recruited. The refresher training program on the roles and functions of pediatric nurses was carried out four days a week for two weeks. The mean scores on the pediatric nurses' implementation of roles and functions inventory that was administered prior to and following the program were used to assess the realization of the nurses' roles and functions. Results: The pediatric nurses' implementation of their roles and functions showed a significant improvement following the program. It was determined that the nurse's age had an impact on the subscale of the role of communicator and cooperator, and that the position of the nurse had an impact on the subscale of the role of counselor. Conclusion: The results indicated that a program of regular and planned refresher training for pediatric nurses increased their awareness about the implementation of their roles and functions and consequently produced the potential of a positive impact on the nursing practice.

Chairman Hill:  In 1944, the Academy inaugurated a Study of medical services available to the children of America.  Included in the Study was a detailed survey of the Pediatric Departments of the 70 medical schools in the U.S.  Out of this Study, requiring some 4 years and costing over a million dollars, a vast amount of important information was assembled.  As might be expected, the Study clearly showed the enormous advantages possessed by the majority of American children in quantity and quality of medical care, but it also revealed gaps and deficiencies not only in medical care in the field but in the teaching of pediatrics in the medical schools.
