One of the most memorable images from the Apollo missions to the moon is the picture of the astronaut standing next to the U.S. flag.  Throughout the history of America’s space program flags have been prevalent symbols on space suits, spacecraft, and mission patches.  Since the early days of manned space flight “flown” flags have been used as mementos to commemorate important flights and to recognize the contributions of individuals to the success of the program.  Other symbols besides flags also have played an important role as the program has evolved.  This paper will discuss some of the ways that flags have been used in the manned space program, unique flags that have been used to represent the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and its programs, and other symbols unique to NASA.

The history of human Mars mission planning from the early 1950s through the 1960s is examined. For centuries, Mars has been an object of fascination and, since the 1800s, sciencefiction authors have imagined what it would be like for humans to travel to that planet. Space enthusiasts have shared this dream and as early as the 1950s were presenting feasible proposals for human missions to Mars. Since the creation of NASA, the Agency has maintained the idea of human Mars missions as an important long-term goal. Throughout its history, NASA has conducted studies aimed at landing an astronaut on Mars. NASA’s current strategic plan still includes this goal. Therefore, it is important to look at previous planning efforts to see what work has been accomplished and to discover lessons that future planners can apply to their programs.

Without the foundation of CODPOH, Civil Society dies, Democracy dies … without Civil Society, Justice gets corrupted; Nepotism, Cronyism, Graft, Racism, Intolerance, Inequality, Ethnic Cleansing, Apartheid … they all flourish; those with Wealth and Power get away with murder … there is Chaos, Conflicts, Wars and more Chaos … in countries where the majority is White and Christian … statistics show … that the Browns, Blacks and all other shades, and the non- Christians, suffer terribly.
It is a fact that the Educational System, both public and private needs to be overhauled. CODPOH is completely absent in white policemen and women. A white police person grows up in a white neighborhood; from kindergarten, to primary, Sunday school, through primary, secondary, college fraternities and university he then becomes a police person in a black neighborhood. How can anyone expect a white policeperson undo twenty years of a white neighborhood, a white school, a white church, a white Sunday school, a white fraternity, a white college/university, all of which are without the foundation of CODPOH be able to adapt overnight in a black neighborhood overnight ? How can s/he overcome the Fear of the ‘Other’ which has been hammered into him for the first twenty years?
