House Dust

A method combining dust mite filtration and natural dust mite control using essential oils has been proposed with a view to reducing asthma allergens in household air. Research papers related to asthma triggers, dust mite physiology and habitats, High-efficiency particulate arrestor (HEPA) air-purifiers and chemical and natural control measures have been studied before proposing the solution. The combined methods individually prove effective against house dust mite control, ensuring the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid system.

Dust engenders a fear of the unseen, an anxiety and horror at the dissolution of matter to a minute scale; it is amorphous, all pervading, and knows no boundaries. Through the inevitable progress of time the body is transformed and reduced to
dust as the outer layers are shed as dander. In its smallest form the body is grotesque and undelineated. Our dead return to dust but so too do the living. The skins and cells of our moving, breathing bodies disperse into the world, mingling
with foreign matter and waste as we pass through space. Dust forms stagnant veils coating objects of disuse, gathering in corners and floating above our beds. It is an
unsettling and permanent presence, marginal and transitional, without site or bounds.

This paper explores bodies that are decentralised and in a state of dusty disintegration. It addresses the horror of the body in a state of dissipation by asking: where and when does the body begin? Where may it end? And how might the body's transgressed boundaries offer up possibilities for designing wearable artefacts?

Exposure assessment of lead (Pb) and Arsenic (As) from food, water, and house dust intake were assessed among pregnant women, their children and fetuses in Pakistan and Japan, as well as their body burden of the metals in their blood.Fifty families which included a pregnant woman, a fetus and the 1–3-year-old siblings were recruited in Karachi and Khairpur in Pakistan, and Shimotsuke and Asahikawa in Japan, respectively. Their dietary exposure to Pb and As was measured in 3-day food duplicates and drinking water by ICP-MP. Pb in house dust and respirable dust was evaluated with an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Non-radioactive isotope Pb profiles of blood specimens will be compared with those of the exposure origins, such as food duplicates, respirable house dust, the soils nearby, and gasoline.Judging from the data collected and analyzed so far, contribution from dietary intake is highly correlated to higher body burden of Pb among Pakistani mothers.
