moreThis research used a qualitative research with these objectives: 1) to study background, social condition, and culture of Lao-song ethnic group at Don Makluea sub-district, U-Thong district, Suphan Buri province, and 2) to study song lyrics, musical characteristics and role of music in society of Lao-song ethnic group at Don Makluea sub-district, U-Thong district, Suphan Buri province. The results of this research indicated that Lao-song ethnic group moved from Petchaburi province, and most of them were farmers. With modernization of the country, the external societies were increasingly accepted by the internal societies. Lao-song ethnic groups' culture and tradition were also affected by the present society. Their tradition and recreation were annually held only for entertainment. The important songs used in Lao-song people's ways of daily life are Khaen song of Lai Sutsanaen Song, Khaen song of Lai Wiang and Khaen song of Maeng Phu Tom Dok. The musical instruments were 7-piped mouth organ, 8-piped mouth organ, small cup-shaped cymbals, and Big Cup shaped cymbals, Trio Drums, and big drums. Role of music in society of Lao-song included Lao-song people's creational roles, Lao-song people's belief and ritual, Lao-song people's social relationship roles, Lao-song people's musical inheritance roles, Lao-song people's musical and cultural conservational roles.
