The pulse tone generator provides one with the application of two 555 timers, resistors, electrolytic capacitors and a power source, all being connected together on a Vero board. This project attempted to incorporate into previously developed pulse tone generator useful features such as making the circuit simpler, variation to the tone by means of a knob. A lighter weight plastic case is used as against metallic casings used in some previous works. In this project, a regulated dc power supply starting with a 220/12 volt, 500VA step down transformer is used to power the circuit, when the circuit is being connected to the power source, the loudspeaker will emit a loud audible sound. This sound will stay on for as long as the circuit is connected to the dc power supply. The component and circuits was tested and the design was realized.

The Nadi pariksha technique, which dates to ancient Ayurveda, is a fabulous approach for detecting imbalances in the human body. The pulse, or Nadi (old term), is a vital movement of energy, or life, that moves through the delicate medium of the human body, allowing the physician to feel and understand the blood flow into and out of the heart. It is a traditional method for identifying physical, mental, and emotional imbalances in the body, as well as diseases. A technique for measuring the pressure in pulses like this is useful for disease detection. For any disease diagnosis, however, Nadi pariksha requires experts with vast experience and pulse reading skills. In this paper, an ultrasound microphone sensor is used to identify three Ayurveda doshas, namely, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, from a collected Nadi signal at a single place. Different statistical features are retrieved for each signal and categorized using the K-NN classifier to identify these three doshas. The proposed work has been tested and validated in a clinical setting with several patients, and we observed that this method results in a higher identification rate for all three doshas.

The study presents an insight into the compliance of installed intruder alarm systems against the relevant Australian Standard. A survey of 451 domestic and commercial intruder alarm systems was completed across the Perth metropolitan area, Western Australia. The gathered data were evaluated against Australian Standard AS2201.1 for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of intruder alarm systems to determine whether alarm installations complied with two parts of the standard, being that of control panel location and zone supervision. Security technicians are tested, and if they pass are awarded a licence, in part, against their knowledge and understanding of AS2201.1. The combination of the Western Australian Security Act and Australian Standard AS2201 provide what could be considered the most robust control of the intruder alarm installers sector within Australia. The Australian Standard AS2201.1 required that intruder alarm control equipment shall be located within the alarmed area, located outside the entry / exit point and operate in dual end-of-line supervision. Nevertheless, a signifi cant proportion of the intruder alarms measured did not comply with AS2201.1, with 17.52 per cent of panels located outside an alarmed area, 14.86 per cent panels located in the entry / exit point, 45.90 per cent of the panels not capable of dual end-of-line supervision and 58.75 per cent of the systems configured in single end-of-line supervision. These items contravene sections of the Australian Standard AS2201.1 and would appear to demonstrate systemic failure within this sector of the security industry. Further to these fi ndings, the study made a number of conclusions in an attempt to understand why such a level of non-compliance was found. Conclusions included a lack of industry-focused vocational training and education, limited industry self-regulation and supervision, restricted licensing regime, inappropriate legislation and not having a single federal approach to such matters. In addition, the introduction of a new performance based AS2201 standard may further decrease the ability to measure such non-compliance. However, no single aspect could be considered ineffective; rather, it is argued that all of these areas need to be addressed to significantly reduce the level of systemic non-compliance of intruder alarms systems.

The infra-red and digital technologies were used in the realization of this objective. The infra-red (I.R.) signal is transmitted by an I.R diode which is intercepted and decoded by the receiver circuitry. Obstructing the line of sight (within 8 meters) produced a digital display of the zone trespassed. This also triggers an alarm, both of which are designed to have duration of 30 seconds. The transmitters and sensors should be raised at least 1 meter above the ground to ensure that only humans trigger the alarm.

The main aim of this project is to develop an algorithm for detecting object and recognizing the object through the use of a static camera. This paper focuses on detecting objects such as people in a restricted area or zone, sounding an alarm once the object is detected and recognizing the faces of the people. For the detection and alarm phase, image difference algorithm is used while for the recognition phase, Gabor feature extraction and Neural Networks are used.

The chapter critiques Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) as applied in the domestic and commercial environments in the protection of assets, with Defence in Depth providing an underlying strategy. IDS is the integration of technology and processes, with taxonomies of sensing detectors and applied levels of environmental security. Therefore, the chapter raises issues in the efficacy and application of IDS. Efficacy issues include the degree of deterrence provided and the ability to detect intrusion. Whether IDS alters deviant environmental behaviour and why users choose IDS over other strategies. Application issues include the Electronic Security sector itself, regulatory regimes, quality of installation and the false alarm rates. These, amongst others, are factors that affect the efficacy of IDS. To conclude, the future of these systems and further research that could improve our understanding of IDS is presented.
