This essay was greatly provoked by Sibaji Bandyopadhyay's perceptions on the Bengali modern song and its multi-layered histories. Reminds me of the many evenings (and nights) at Sibaji-da's place listening to him and his song-medleys. Smells of Old Monk, Charminar and great intellectual stimulation! Pity that I visit his place quite infrequently now. Bandyopadhyay and his writings have been the foremost influence in my academic pursuit. Stunningly sharp, great teacher, prolific writer and proudly bilingual. This small thinkpiece has been written in a style that can be best described as 'gadda' (gaaner adda in Bengali), something that many of us used to often have at Sibaji-da's 18/53 Dover Lane apartment.
