There are various worship activities held at mosque, such as reciting, prayers and Friday sermon and acoustically, it is categorized as speech. Syamsul Ulum Mosque (MSU) located at Telkom University, Indonesia was taken as an object for research since there were no information nor historical data about actual acoustic condition and acoustical design. Main hall, considered as primary venue, is taken as analysis area. Measurement covers only speech-related objective parameters; reverberation time (RT), Definition (D50), Sound Strength (G) and Noise Criteria (NC). Furthermore, identification of proper area-for-speech activity and uniformity of distribution energy of impulse response parameters is illustrated by map contour. Since there is some value at certain areas does not have value within recommendation range, the main hall of MSU is inappropriate venue to accommodate worship activities.

: Acoustical design as part of the audio comfort influences the architectural design strategy of a mosque significantly. As belonging to the speech room criteria, a mosque should meet some acoustic room requirements to deliver the solemnness to the worshipper during the prayer. Concerning this, the study aims to assess the indoor acoustics performance of Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, Banda Aceh. Baiturrahman grand mosque is an important place of worship for Acehnese and becoming a landmark of Banda Aceh City. The mosque which contains a lot of history of Aceh was built in heavy construction, i.e. concrete wall, marble coated floor, and concrete dome ceiling. Due to its significance, the room acoustics of the mosque as the primary design considerations in a speech room type is evaluated. The acoustics parameters estimated are Noise Criteria (NC), Sound Pressure Level (SPL), Reverberation Time (RT), and Rapid Speech Transmission Index (RASTI). The background noise was recorded for deliv...

Acoustical design of mosques is critical considering speech and music related activity patterns held in such religious spaces. This paper aims to emphasize the importance of practicing acoustics of mosques as early as in the concept design stage. Within this framework, design issues of a contemporary mosque, namely, Dogramacızade Ali Pas ßa Mosque in Ankara, Turkey are discussed. The edifice known as the technological mosque with its eclectic interpretation has a unique architectural style. The architectural design of the mosque is heavily supported with acoustical design in all phases. Computer simulation is applied as an acoustical design tool and estimations are held by commercial room acoustics software. Results are justified with real size field measurements inside the mosque and related objective acoustical parameters including reverberation time (RT or T30), clarity (C50 or C80), speech transmission index (STI) and Aweighted sound levels (SPL-A) are assessed. Evaluation of the space indicates that the optimized acoustical field is proper for intended functions of use in a mosque and satisfies desired tranquil environment.

Acoustic quality is an essential aspect in the design of spaces, including mosques. A mosque as a worship place has several activities that require good acoustic quality, especially in terms of delivering a clear sound. Masjid At-Tarbiyah is one of the mosques on the UIN Malang campus. This research was conducted to determine the value of acoustic quality in the Masjid At-Tarbiyah and analyze the factors that influence it. This research is a quantitative research that looks at the value of room acoustics' quality with modeling and simulation of the Ecotect v.2011 program. The acoustic quality value is calculated based on the reverberation time value known from the simulation-based on observations and physical measurements of space in the field. The RT value reaches 7.86 seconds at a frequency of 500kHz, and the average RT is 3.467 seconds. This study indicates that the value of acoustic in Masjid At-Tarbiyah is low, as indicated by the high RT, so that space improvement is needed.

Religious buildings are important for many communities because of their representation of different beliefs. In such structures, the sense of individuality or unity & togetherness are created according to variable worship activities; these different uses have also different acoustical requirements. In order to create the desired feeling in the space at the required time, rooms should be evaluated in terms of acoustical conditions. In the study, it is aimed to investigate the objective parameters of sound of the main prayer hall of the Bedirye Tiryaki Mencik Mosque, which was built recently in Manisa (Turkey). It is one of the modern examples of mosque architecture in Turkey. The structure differs from other contemporary examples with the design approach and construction technology. The mosque was built by using prefabrication technology for the entire structure. The acoustical evaluation of this recent example by comparing the recommended values of objective parameters shows that the building has balance between architectural and acoustical design.

Every Friday, Muslims has been required to perform a special prayer known as the Friday prayers which involve the delivery of a brief lecture (Khutbah). Speech intelligibility in oral communications presented by the preacher affected all the congregation and determined the level of acoustic quality in the interior of the mosque. Therefore, this study intended to assess the level of acoustic quality of three public mosques in Batu Pahat. Good acoustic quality is essential in contributing towards appreciation in prayers and increasing khusyu' during the worship, which is closely related to the speech intelligibility corresponding to the actual function of the mosque according to Islam. Acoustic parameters measured includes noise criteria (NC), reverberation time (RT) and speech transmission index (STI), and was performed using the sound level meter and sound measurement instruments. This test is carried out through the physical observation with the consideration of space and volume design as a factor affecting acoustic parameters. Results from all 3 mosques as the showed that the acoustic quality level inside these buildings are slightly poor which is at below 0.45 coefficients based on the standard. Among the factors that influencing the low acoustical quality are location, building materials, installation of sound absorption material and the number of occupants inside the mosque. As conclusion, the acoustic quality level of a mosque is highly depends on physical factors of the mosque such as the architectural design and space volume besides other factors as been identified by this study.
The study of mosque acoustics, with regard to acoustical characteristics, sound quality for speech intelligibility, and other applicable acoustic criteria, has been largely neglected. In this study we discuss how mosque design is influenced by worship considerations. In this study the acoustical characteristics of typically constructed contemporary mosques without domes in Saudi Arabia had been investigated. Extensive field measurements had been taken in varies representative mosques of different forms and architectural features in order to characterize their acoustical quality and to identify the impact of its prayer hall form on their acoustics performance. Objective room-acoustic indicators such as reverberation time (RT) and the early decay time (EDT) have been tested. The speech transmission index (STI) had been measured without the operation of existing sound reinforcement systems. The results will show the acoustical quality in the investigated mosques, unoccupied case.

The study of mosque acoustics, concerning acoustical features, sound quality for speech intelligibility, and additional practical acoustic criteria, is commonly overlooked. Acoustic quality is vital to the fundamental use of mosques, in terms of contributing toward prayers and worshippers’ appreciation. This paper undertakes a comparative analysis of the acoustic quality level and the acoustical characteristics for two modern mosque buildings constructed in Erbil city. This work investigates and examines the acoustical quality and performance of these two mosques and their prayer halls through room simulation using ODEON Room Acoustics Software, to assess the degree of speech intelligibility according to acoustic criteria relative to the spatial requirements and design guidelines. The sound pressure level and other room-acoustic indicators, such as reverberation time (T30), early decay time, and speech transmission index, are tested. The outcomes demonstrate the quality of acoustics...

The outcomes demonstrate the quality of acoustics in the investigated mosques during semi-occupied and fully-occupied circumstances. The results specify that the sound quality within the both mosques is displeasing as the loudspeakers were off.
