Jurnal Ilmiah Lingua Idea, 2023
This study examines metaphorical adjectives describing humans in Javanese. The metaphorical adjective is literally used to describe nouns other than humans but figuratively used to describe humans. This study aims to describe metaphorical adjectives used to characterize humans figuratively based on their meaning type. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data in this study are adjectives used to describe humans in Javanese metaphorically. The data corpus is taken from written and oral sources. The written sources are taken from the Dictionary of Baoesastra Djawa written by Poerwadarminta dan Javanese Dictionary written by the Language Center Team of Yogyakarta and a Javanese short story from the anthology of Javanese literature short story 2007 Kidung Megatruh (22 short stories) and short story of Yogyakarta Javanese in 2000-2010 (87 short stories). Data analysis techniques are inductive, with identification and classification techniques following research objectives. Based on the result, 43 adjectives are used to describe humans with metaphorical meanings. The adjectives are divided into six types: adjectives of positive character marker, negative character marker, positive mental condition marker, negative mental condition marker, positive physical condition marker, and negative physical condition marker. The use of metaphorical adjectives explaining humans in Javanese shows that the creativity of Javanese linguists is good at utilizing existing lexicons to express ideas by distorting their meaning without creating a new lexicon.

This paper is the result of a library research which aims at revealing the Javanese characters reflected in the novel Nun Pada Sebuah Cermin written by Afifah Afrah. The analysis is conducted by using qualitative descriptive method. The main sources of data were derived from the novel and supported by some related books and other sources such as journals, articles, and essays from some websites. The data were analyzed by applying the theory of Javanese characters proposed by Achmad (2017) who notes that there are nine Javanese characters adopted in their life namely compliant, easy to mingle, working cooperatively, polite, friendly, alert and cautious, timid and shy, not self-forcing, and patient. The Javanese are generally considered as people who have soft and wise characters, particularly in their behaviour, and they always maintain to avoid dispute. The term Unggah-Ungguh 'to behave in good manners' is a prior tenet of Javanese people, especially in order to get comfort, serenity, tranquillity, peace, and blessing in life. The findings show that there are five Javanese characters which are vividly reflected in the novel namely easy to mingle, polite, patient, not self-forcing and timid and shy. Those characters are quite significant to put into practice in real life as they constitute dignified moral values to maintain peace and harmony among the members of a family, among the citizens of a nation, and among nations across the globe.

This paper will focus on aspects of the geometry relating to the representation of person. According to H&R, a language with an inclusive/exclusive distinction has the four person categories shown in (2). (2a) shows the most fully specified person category, the inclusive, which has both [Spkr] and [Addr] features. (2b) shows the exclusive first person category. This category has only the [Spkr] feature. (2c) shows the second person category, with [Addr]. Inclusive, first person, and second person all have the [Part] feature as well. This distinguishes them from the third person, which lacks this feature. In the normal case, all four categories show number distinctions, determined by features such as [Min] and [Grp], which are dependent on the Individuation node.
