Before the revelation of the Al-Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, the concept of revelation had existed in the Arab culture at that time. The concept at that time was related to poetry and prophecy which was thought to have come from the world of the jinn which was conveyed to poets and fortune tellers through a process of revelation. Revelation was a tremendous miracle sent down to prophets and messengers. This revelation was sent in accordance with something that will happen in this era, the revelation was sent through the angel Jibril, then the angel Jibril delivered it to the prophets and apostles who were willed by Allah. Revelation does not only come down to the Prophet Muhammad, but also to the prophets before the Prophet Muhammad. Besides that, in the context, the revelations that were sent to the Prophet Muhammad were not only al-quran, but also in the form of hadiths, both in the form of qudsi hadiths and hadiths of the Prophet. Among the mercy of Allah SWT towards humans that he not only gave them a clean nature that could guide and guide them towards goodness, but also from time to time he sent an apostle to mankind.

Some Western scholars argue that the Qur'an is a historical text that reflects Muḥammad's reflection on the socio-cultural dynamics of seventhcentury Arab society. In the hands of several modern Muslim scholars, the assumption of the historicity of the Qur'an is used as a basis for contextual reinterpretation, although in general they still acknowledge its divinity. This paper intends to conceptualize the phenomenon of Qur'anic revelation through an analysis of the chronology of its revelation as explained in sīrah nabawiyyah. Through this analysis, it can be concluded that the process of Qur'anic revelation was external, did not originate from the Prophet Muhammad's idea. Its revelation is a transcendent process as well as the concept of revelation understood in every religious tradition, even though it is intended for human benefit. The assumption of the historicity of Qur'anic revelation does not get strong support from sīrah's data.

Nasr Hamid Abu Zaid ialah tokoh yang dikenal kontroversial karena berbagai pemikirannya yang dinilai menyimpang. Konsep-konsep yang dia bangun berlatar belakang budaya. Begitu pula konsep wahyu dalam al-Qur’an, yang diyakini dengan tiga cara, yaitu wahyu sebagai ilham, berbicara di balik tabir dan wahyu yang disampaikan tidak langsung. Nasr Hamid juga menjelaskan diterimanya konsep wahyu dengan perantara dilatar belakangi oleh budaya orang Arab yang percaya relasi antara manusia dan jin.

Then the revelation referred to by other Ahmadiyah schools is not like the revelation in the Qur’an but the revelation of tajdid (renewal revelation) or muhaddas revelation (revelation received directly through direct dialogue with God).
