On the 3d of October 2016, 150 years were completed since the foundation of the National Archaeological Museum. The history of the largest archaeological museum of Greece constitutes a long and adventurous chronicle, connected to the cultural climate in Europe in modern times and the official policy of the newly founded Greek state on the protection of antiquities, as part of the cultural heritage. Assembling antiquities from all over Greece, from Cyprus, Asia Minor, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Sicily and Southern Italy, the National Archaeological Museum achieved, in configuring its rooms, a multidimensional image of the archaeological past, from the 6th millennium BC until late antiquity, covering the major expanse of Greek culture. Today, the National Archaeological Museum is an open and accessible museum, a space of dialogue, cooperation and voyaging together with the bodies of the local community and at the same time a museum of worldwide range and multiple synergies with international cultural organizations. In the framework of this communication policy, a rich programme of activities was organized for the celebration of 150 years since its foundation (1866-2016). A discipline where several scientific fields meet, archaeology studies the material traces of civilisations, from prehistory to the contemporary era. By enriching our knowledge of the societies that came before us, it contributes to a better understanding of today's world and helps sharpen citizens' critical outlook. When it comes to protection, conservation, awareness-raising and education, archaeological heritage is a significant societal opportunity for Europe. At a time marked by concerns over identity and community, archaeology is a source of openness and tolerance. The European Archaeology Days can therefore help shape a common identity, while preserving the cultural diversity that characterises a Europe of multiplicity. Developing this initiative could encourage open access to culture for all and, among future generations, foster acceptance of the 'Other' in all their differences. In this context, it feels important to give the event a European dimension.

Archaeological Reports, but which nevertheless warrant emphasis, either as a result of their particular characteristics or for the contribution they make to broader archaeological narratives. This section is not intended to be exhaustive, but rather an overview of archaeological research in Greece. It comprises largely preliminary reports (results of excavations that took place up to and including August 2022, where possible) that complement the digital content made available through Archaeology in Greece Online (https://chronique.efa.gr). Due to the diachronic nature of a number of the sites, and for ease of reference, the material is organized geographically in the first instance and then chronologically (earliest to latest) within each section as far as possible.

As readers will know, our host organisation the World Archaeological Congress has a global reach and represents us to other global organisations. Key areas for WAC's concern are of course the treatment of archaeological remains and engagements with communities, especially Indigenous communities. Most recently, WAC has engaged with the World Bank in commenting on the latter's policy on development as it affects archaeological resources and engagements with communities. This is not the first time WAC and the World Bank have had conversations: representatives of the World Bank have attended and spoken at several WAC Congresses and been well received. What is shocking in the most recent contacts has been the disregard for and ignorance of archaeological and Indigenous interests shown by the World Bank in its policy-making. As Editors, we wish to put on record our support for WAC initiatives in engaging with issues that affect our community and maintaining the ethical standards WAC has set in these areas. We urge other organisations whose work engages with or affects archaeological material or the communities they represent to ensure that organisations such as WAC are approached for advice in policy and that advice is fully incorporated into policy and practice. Alexander the Great's Heritage, and Dispute Over the Descendants of His Two Sons The Macedonia naming dispute is a political dispute over the use of the name ''Macedonia'' between the southeastern European countries of Greece and the former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia. The specific naming dispute, although an ongoing issue in Yugoslav-Greek relations since World War II, was reignited after the breakup of Yugoslavia and the newly
