This paper presents a critical edition of a poem beginning A lucht iúil na Mumhan maorga which, according to its accompanying heading, was composed by Peadar (Peattair) Ó Longáin (b. 1801) from Cork. Only one copy appears to have survived, i.e. that in RIA MS 941 (23 C 10). The poem's sardonic tone is reminiscent of the seventeenth-century anonymous prose composition Pairlement Chloinne Tomáis, or 'The Parliament of Clann Tomáis', and it echoes a continuing underlying theme in the latter work, i.e. the downfall of the native mandarin class and a concomitant loss of native learning. The object of the poet's scathing tongue is identified in line twenty-eight as Ribeart an méirleach, or 'Robert the villain', a representative of a boorish peasant class who slavishly apes an English-orientated gentry.

Der folgende Beitrag wird drei bzw., wie sich herausstellen wird, vier verschiedene Personennamen aus alt-und mittelirischen Quellen behandeln und sie als Entlehnungen aus dem Britannischen erklären. Diese Herleitung ist für einige der Namen in allgemeiner Form schon früher vorgeschlagen worden, und zwar hauptsächlich aufgrund der Tatsache, daß sie innerhalb des irischen Flexionssystems indeklinabel sind. Der Terminus "Britannisch" ist dabei in seiner weiten Bedeutung zu verstehen, denn die Mehrheit der behandelten Namen wird nicht aus dem Altbritannischen, sondern aus einem späteren Stadium des Britannischen bereits nach der Apokope, dem Kymrischen, hergeleitet. 1 Dieselbe Person wie in Fei. NINA Y. CHEKHONADSKAJA Der Wagen und der Wagenlenker in den irischen Heiligenleben The paper deals with chariots and charioteers as described in Irish Saints Lives. There are realistic descriptions of a chariot, its details and how it was used in monastic life and in travels. But the Lives also describe a number of miracles concerned with the chariots and horses: e.g. Aying chariots, deer yoked onto a chariot, predictions by the noise of a chariot (the noise of a chariot under a king ), horses of an unusual (blue) color emerging from the sea. While some of those miracles could be Biblical borrowings (e.g. the vision of a horseman in a fiery chariot) others (e.g. the motive of a person getting blessing after being knocked down by or falling from a chariot, of a charioteer sacrificing himself in place of his master) may constitute a part of a wider Indo-European heritage.
