MA Manuscript Cultures (scholarships) 2022 intake

The MA ‘Manuscript Cultures’ is a one-year course at Universität Hamburg that combines humanities and sciences. The study programme covers a broad spectrum of manuscript cultures, especially in Asia, Africa and Europe. Scholarships are available. FAKULTÄT FÜR GEISTESWISSENSCHAFTEN Manuscript Cultures M.A. Application Information Application period: : 1 June - 15 July (winter semester) Semester start: October 1st (winter term) Language(s) of instruction: English Introduction The MA programme Manuscript Cultures is a one-year course (60 CP) that conveys central topics in the field of general manuscript research combined with specific skills. The degree programme promotes the independent, critical, and analytical work with manuscripts. Students will learn how to conduct cultural and scientific examination of the texts, images, notes and diagrams contained in the manuscripts, including the scientific material analysis. They will develop creative approaches to solving complex scientific and scholarly questions. The range of manuscript cultures covered includes Asian, African, and European cultures. Admission Requirements University degree A first qualifying degree (BA/Mag. Art./Diplom) from a German or recognized foreign University in one of the subjects taught in the programme (African Studies and Linguistics, Ethiopian Studies, Ancient History, Art History, Assyriology, Austronesian Studies, Classical Archaeology, Coptology, Greek Studies, Historical Musicology, Indology, Islamic Studies, Japanese Studies, Jewish Philosophy and Religion, Medieval and Modern History, Sinology, Thai Studies, Turkology, Vietnamese Studies) or a related one. In exceptional cases, the above access requirements may be derogated from the fact that due to special circumstances, at least equivalent qualification and suitability may be assumed. If you have not received your degree certificate yet, you can submit this by the end of the first semester of your master’s program. Please see the “Documents to submit” section below for details. (For an exemplary list of subjects, see the section „University Degree“ above). Recognition of transcripts for degree programs completed at foreign higher education institutions If you obtained your first degree abroad, your certificate will be reviewed during the application procedure in the faculty of your program. If your degree certificate is not in English or German, please include a copy of a certified English or German translation of this together with your application documents. Documents to submit Please submit uncertified copies of all documents. For documents not issued in English or German, a certified English or German translation is required. o Printout of your online application o Degree certificate or provisional Transcript of Records If you are still studying when you apply and cannot yet provide a final certificate containing your grades, please submit your current Transcript of Records confirming your provisional grade point average.
