Topical gels or formulations have many advantages as compared to other conventional dosage form. Topical gels are less toxic and more effective than other dosage form. Topical gels are best choice for treat local infections and skin problems because of it directly apply on the skin or in the site. Topical gels provide action direct to the site of action. Topical gels exclude the GI irritation and metabolism of drug by which the bioavailability of drug is greater. Drug-Drug interaction and Food drug interaction is also not possible in the case of topical gels. Gels have better penetrating power because gel consists two phase. In this review a detailed study about gel, its preparation, characteristics and evaluation parameter was done.

The method of applying prescription dosage forms to the skin for direct treatment of a cutaneous disorder is known as a topical drug delivery system. Topical gels are semisolid dosage forms in which a liquid phase is constrained within a three-dimensional polymeric matrix derived from natural or semi-synthetic sources with high physical or chemical cross-linking. Because of their intermediate behavior between solid and liquid materials, topical gels are an excellent candidate for transdermal drug delivery. Clinical evidence indicates that topical gel is a safe and effective treatment choice for the management of skin-related diseases, especially when used for local action to avoid the side effects of other conventional dosage forms. Gels, cream, ointment, and paste are the most commonly used semi-solid formulations for topical drug delivery. Gels are colloids in which the liquid medium has thickened to the extent that it behaves like a solid. Since topical gel formulations are less ...

Topical drug administration is a localized drug delivery system anywhere in the body through ophthalmic, rectal, vaginal and skin as topical routes. Skin is one of the most readily accessible organs on human body for topical administration and is main route of topical drug delivery system. The objective of this paper is to discuss how the gel forms of drug becoming more popular due to ease of application and better percutaneous absorption.
Advances in Pharmacology and Pharmacy
Application of drug by topical route is an alternate route for the treatment of skin diseases for systemic route. The skin diseases can be treated by administration of drug by local application and may avoid first pass metabolism. It minimizes systemic side effects and when applied locally can be removed easily if any side effects occur like, irritation, skin rash, redness at the application site. The topical drug delivery has been beneficial for longer period of time because of availability of large surface area of skin which exposed to circulatory routes. Because of this route, one can be directly applied to any external body surface and it is only for local application. Amongst many types of topical dosage form delivery, gel is most likely to be used and is a patient-friendly dosage form. Due to the lack of insoluble excipients and oily bases, the gel represents better release of drug as compared to other topical drug delivery system. Nowadays, many industries follow QbD (Quality by Design) approach for the formulation of Gel to prepare a quality medicine delivery to patients. The QbD approach describes the CQA, CMA and CPP of the formulation which ensures the quality of dosage form. This review article focuses on the different dosage forms, types of gel, evaluation by taking parameters such as drug content, pH, spreadability, extrudability, viscosity, swelling index and in-vitro drug diffusion and application of QbD approach to gel formulation.

This study aimed to increase the therapeutic effectiveness of ibuprofen by increasing its transdermal permeation, via solid dispersion incorporated in gel. 2-hydroxy propyl beta cyclodextrins (2-HPβ-CD) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) were used as carriers and carbopol 941 was the gelling agent. Eight solid dispersion formulations of ibuprofen were prepared using different drug: polymer ratios viz. 1:0.5, 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 for 2-HPβ-CD and β cyclodextrin using the co-evaporation method, and were evaluated for partition coefficient, dissolution studies, and Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectrophotometer. The optimized solid dispersion of ibuprofen was incorporated into gel and was compared with penetration enhancers. The formulations were analyzed to determine their pH, spreadability, viscosity, and in vitro drug release. The absence of extraneous interactions among ingredients was confirmed by FTIR, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)

The aim of the current study was to explore the possibility of formulating a topical gel using avocado extract. The avocado oil was extracted by the locally procured fruit. Different formulations were prepared by changing the concentration of avocado oil and carbopol. The formulations were tested for pH, spreadibility, viscosity, sunscreen activity and antibacterial effect. All the parameters were found to be satisfactory. The formulation exhibited good sunscreen activity and was found effective against selected microorganism. It can be concluded that the formulation can be used in the treatment of different skin infections and for the protection from Sun.

The delivery of medications through the skin has long been a fascinating as well as difficult subject of study. For different medications, topical drug administration has brought substantial benefits over the systemic route, one of the most important of which is reduced toxicity due to minimal or no exposure to non-target organs. Because of its simplicity and affordability, topical administration is the preferred method for delivering medicinal substances locally. Topical drug delivery system includes solid powders, semisolids, liquid preparations, and sprays, among other pharmaceutical dose forms. Gels, creams, and ointments are the most often used semisolid preparations for topical medication delivery. Topical medication delivery methods allow a medicine to enter the systemic circulation at a controlled rate by penetrating the epidermal layer. New drugs are being developed utilizing the transdermal approach in addition to the existing formulations due to the inherent benefits of d...

Abstract: Bangladeshi students study English grammar as a compulsory subject from primary to tertiary level of education. Students are taught fixed grammatical rules in different education levels as mentioned in the syllabus. The intention of this paper is to show the status of teaching English grammar in Bangladesh and thereby to discover whether there is any effect of communicative method in teaching English grammar in the mentioned context. The main observations from this study are: Teachers use the grammar translation method in teaching and rarely have exposure to communicative approach. New teaching methods are rarely introduced. Grammatical rules are taught deductively, through direct demonstration in the classroom. Lack of contextual interpretation of grammatical rules is common. Students memorize the exam oriented rules of English grammar. No interesting communicative practices are done. Moreover awareness regarding teaching and learning English grammar in an effective communicative method is not visible. Keywords: Teaching Grammar, Traditional Method, Language Skill, Communication.
