This chapter provides a situational analysis of cyber crimes against women in India and laws that prevent cyber victimization in general and women in particular. The Chapter is divided in to three parts. The part one provides a Situational analysis of cyber victimization of women in India where a pilot study on cyber victimization is also discussed. The Part two of this chapter deals with the current legal protection that are available to women victims in India for cyber crimes such as Offensive communication, Offences against cyber privacy, hacking, stalking and related crimes, Cheating by impersonation, Voyeurism, Pornography, obscenity and indecent representation of women in the cyber space. The part three discusses on various loopholes that exist in Indian laws especially the Indian Information Technology Act and suitable solutions are provided.
Cyber Crimes against Women in India reveals loopholes in the present laws and policies of the Indian judicial system, and what can be done to ensure safety in cyberspace. The book is a signicant contribution to socio-legal research on online crimes targeting teenage girls and women. It shows how they become soft targets of trolling, online grooming, privacy infringement, bullying, pornography, sexual defamation, morphing, spoong and so on. The authors address various raging debates in the country such as how women can be protected from cybercrimes; what steps can be taken as prevention and as recourse to legal aid and how useful and accessible cyber laws are. The book provides detailed answers to a wide array of questions that bother scholars and charts a way forward.

The right to internet usage has now become a human right, as declared by the United Nations Human Rights Council in June 2016. But what are its ramifications in a society steeped in patriarchy, where violence, harassment and discrimination against women in the cyber world mirror that in the real world? In virtual world of internet, the sharing of information is very fast and easy. Internet has become the fastest mode of information sharing tool in the present global world. The number of users of internet in India has been increasing day by day, not only in the metropolitan cities but also in the rural areas. There are numerous advantages with the internet, but at the same time it has become a major mode of instrument to commit virtual crimes against women anonymously. The cyber-crimes pose a great threat to the individual integrity and privacy. Cyber-crime is a global phenomenon and women are more vulnerable and susceptible to the cyber-crimes. Cyber-crimes and privacy breaches in India have been increasing day by day, more particularly against the women with an intention to cause psychological harm to them. Like cyber defamation, cyber-stalking, sending threatening messages, morphing of photos, and e-mail spoofing against women etc. Some of these crimes are rampant in India. The lack of knowledge and consciousness about the use of internet and the social media, the women in India are facing a great vulnerable threat to their lives and to their privacy. In this article, the author explores the issues relating to online security vulnerabilities and the cause of cyber-crimes against women.

Cyber crime has emerged as a potent threat with the expansion of technology. Women being a vulnerable group in India have been trapped more in cyber crimes. This study aims at investigating different forms of cyber crimes experienced by Indian women along with the factors behind its increase in number. At the same time the study tries to understand the existing legal provisions and government initiatives for cyber security in India. It is found in the study that cyber bulling, staking, morphing, cybersex trafficking are major cyber crimes committed towards Indian women. Behind these crimes factors like societal norms, technological vulnerability, lack of awareness regarding cyber security, etc are working. Moreover, the legal framework and government initiatives for combating cyber crimes are still evolving in India.

Technological advances have led to an alarming increase in the complexity of crime, especially in social media networks. Cybercrime targeting women brings serious trouble to society. All legal and criminal laws place a priority on protecting and reducing the vulnerability of women. Cybercrime results in unlawful or excessive use of digital spaces, negatively impacting a person's life and reputation. It is a significant problem that requires law enforcement around the world. Cybercrime is now the most widespread form of digital crime in society. It can take place in digital spaces such as social networks and cell phones. It aims to frighten, shame, and anger targeted individuals by sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, or mean content. Cybercrime statistics increase every year. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reports that there were 50,035 cases of cybercrime in India in 2020, an 11.8% increase from the previous year. This immense increase in technology also leads to many negative impacts such as cyberbullying, stalking, identity theft, etc. In response to all these online crimes, the Government of India has set up various cyber cells and strict cyber laws to avoid online crimes, especially for children and women. This article focuses on cybercrimes against women and analyses several case studies from different news sources (media and portals). The main objective of this article focuses on the increasing cybercrime among female Internet users. Various causes of cybercrime among adolescents and teenagers are discussed. This research attempts to analyse the limitations of IT law as well as the requirements of current Indian cyber laws to combat cybercrime. It critically evaluates the law's response to cybercrime and discusses the implementation of security measures that should be taken by women on social media platforms.

Day by day the women centric cybercrimes are increasing in India. This has added a new dimension to the security issue of Indian woman. The word security is defined as freedom from threat or fear. In this digital world has include a new threat i.e. cyber threat. The Indian Woman who use to face the insecurity problems due to social bondages, masculine mentality, etc now facing new challenges due to cybercrime. The woman who is struggling to free herself from the mentioned problems, see a ray of hope in the globalized world but the masculine mentality and greed amongst the human is putting her efforts in vein. In past few years the woman centric cybercrime are increasing in India. To understand the problem of cybercrime and security of Indian women the research work is conducted. For this the data published by National Crime records Bureau of India has been analyzed.
Cyber crime and victimization in the cyber space had remained a subject of great trepidation in India. Lack of awareness of bizarre nature of attack, ever changing trends of victimization and limited knowledge of laws and rights of individual in the cyber space, among the common internet users contribute greatly towards forming a weird approach to cyber victimization scenario in India. This report, which is a baseline survey done on respondents from all over India, analyzes levels of awareness about common trends of victimization among Indian internet users, modern cyber cultures that are being adopted by users and which may be misused for victimizing others and trends of cyber victimization of women India.
The growing rate of usage of internet has helped individuals not only in betterment of livelihood, economical learning, entertainment etc. but at the same time this advancement in technology has led us to face the bitter side of it thereby introducing us to Cyber Crime. The objective of the study is to study growing rate of cyber crime against women in India and to analyze the reason of its growth. To authenticate the study, data from National Crime Report Bureau and World Bank for the year 2010-2013 has been used. The data available was only till 2013. The tool of SPSS has been used to show the association between internet users and cyber crime cases registered. Ms.Prerna Pratham Singh, a final year M.A.(Political Sc.) Delhi University student, posted the screenshot (May,2015) ,on her Facebook page, of a lewd and abusive message posted to her by accused Raushan Kumar. With this screenshot, she posted a message too-which sent a straight message to not only the accused but to his alikes too. Within hours after Prerna posted this message on her timeline, the accused tried to escape the situation by declaring that his Facebook account has been hacked and has been used by somebody else to send offensive messages. Although Prerna took a brave step to teach lesson to the culprit, but does every women have this much courage to fight against " Cyber Crime " .
