Electric vehicles are more popular than internal combustion engines for reasons such as ease of use, durability, efficiency, and speed. Electric motors aim to improve the efficiency of energy storage systems and to be more environmentally friendly. Due to the growing population, the number of vehicles in use is also increasing, leading to an increase in CO2 and hydrocarbon emissions. This problem has positively affected the battery market in the electric vehicle industry. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) as well as lead-acid batteries, NiMH batteries, and lithium-ion batteries are frequently preferred in the electric vehicle industry. These batteries contain approximately 35-50% Ni, 5-20% rare earth elements (REEs) and 10% Fe by weight. Considering the supply and demand gap for REEs, called "vitamins of modern industry", the recovery of REEs from waste NiMH batteries containing high amounts of REEs becomes important. In this review article, literature studies on electric vehicles and their types and electric vehicle battery types are presented. In addition, the recycling process of NiMH batteries, which are very rich in REEs and precious metals such as Ni, Co, and Mn, is also discussed and the enrichment methods that are effective in the recycling process of NiMH batteries are examined.

Were Byzantine writings about the intermingling of human and angelic voices within ecclesiastical settings merely reflections of mystical theology, or were they actual observations about the movement of sound? Focusing on Thessaloniki, we consider how Byzantine writers described the voices of angels, how certain chants in the divine services animated the voices of celestial beings, and how and where painters represented angels, particularly within the city's monastic churches. We then turn to the study of the acoustical property of reverberation in eight Byzantine churches in the city in order to investigate whether undefined voices heard by subjective listening could be documented by objective, scientific testing.
PhD by Publication thesis, 2024
Background: This thesis explores the author’s personal experience of contributing to art psychotherapy knowledge through practice-based innovation and investigation, as evidenced in nine selected publications. Aim: The exploration aims towards the creation of a process model for the development of art psychotherapy theory and practice which can be used by other Art Psychotherapists. Methods: An autoethnographic approach is framed within the metaphor of a journey. Arts-based approaches and metaphors relating to water and wild swimming are used to examine the author’s process of contributing to art psychotherapy knowledge. Results: It is argued that practicing Art Psychotherapists can harness the curiosity and creativity which underpin therapeutic work to generate and investigate new approaches to practice and new theoretical understanding, for the benefit of clients. Within this process, four key activities are identified: being informed; innovating; investigating; and making an impact, alongside four guiding principles: care for clients; challenge to orthodoxy; collaboration with other professionals and clients; and contribution to the profession. Conclusion: These ideas are brought together in an original process model: The Curiosity and Creativity Process for Practice-Based Development of Art Psychotherapy Knowledge. Implications: This process model could help practicing Art Psychotherapists (and arts therapists more widely) to develop and share new theoretical perspectives and ways of working. The model could be disseminated through pre- and post-qualification arts therapies training and adapted to suit particular contexts, in collaboration with clients.
What makes a statement untrue? What does it take to make a lie out of untruth? Is lying ever morally justified? And religiously? Are lies and art related? Is it possible to live without lies? Does the term bullshit simply express an insult, or is it possible to define it philosophically? If so, what is the difference, and relation, between lie and bullshit? Do politicians entertain a special relationship with untruth, lie, and bullshit? Should they? We shall explore and debate how major Western thinkers conceptualized and assessed untruth, lie, and bullshit-from Plato's Hippias Minor (5 th-4 th century BCE) to Harry G. Frankfurt's On Bullshit (2005). What are the ILOs (Intended Learning Outcomes)? Through attending and successfully completing this course you will: 1. Get an historical overview of western philosophy from Socrates & Plato to H. Frankfurt.

Most chronic diseases--such as cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVD), Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, arthritis, diabetes and obesity--are becoming leading causes of disability and death all over the world. Some of the most common causes of these age-associated chronic diseases are lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption. All the risk factors linked to these chronic diseases have been shown to up-regulate inflammation. Therefore, downregulation of inflammation-associated risk factors could prevent or delay these age-associated diseases. Although modern science has developed several drugs for treating chronic diseases, most of these drugs are enormously expensive and are associated with serious side effects and morbidity. In this review, we present evidence on how chronic inflammation leads to age-associated chronic disease. Furthermore, we discuss diet and lifestyle as solutions for age-associated chronic disease.

O texto toma como obra de arte de referência o documentário “Sem Pena”, dirigido por Eugenio Puppo. A partir dos sentidos e provocações da obra e apropriando-me metodologicamente das perspectivas psicanalíticas sobre a análise das obras de arte e da perspectiva epistemológica feminista de produção de conhecimento analiso os sentidos não ordinários da pena. Formulo três perguntas determinadas pelos seguintes sentidos da palavra pena: autoria, escrita dos letrados e dó. As discussões que seguem a cada uma das perguntas servem para compreender a possibilidade de produção de justiça - no sentido desenvolvido por Derrida - nas decisões que determinam as penas de prisão. Palavras-chave: Epistemologia Feminista; Prisão; Justiça. The documentary “No Penalty”, directed by Eugenio Puppo is the artwork reference for this text. The non ordinary senses of penalty are considered under the perspective of senses and provocations presented in the documentary using the methodological appropriation of psychoanalitics perspectives of artwork and the feminist epistemological perspective of knowledge production. I bring here three questions determined by the following meanings of the word penalty: authorship, writing of scholars and pity. The discussions that follow each one of the questions cater for understanding the possibilities for the production of justice- from the point of view of Derrida- in decisions that determine the prison sentences. Keywords: Feminist Epistemology; Prison; Justice;

The main aim of the present study is to investigate when "loss of self" results in scaredness or anxiety during or after an out-of body-experience (OBE). An OBE is an intense form of (bodily) self loss in which people have the impression that their self is located outside their body. In a sample of respondents reporting to have had an OBE (n = 171), anxiety and different conceptualizations of "self loss" were assessed. In addition, questions were asked about meaning making processes after the OBE. Results show that there was no relationship between anxiety and self loss with a relational component (i.e., mystical experiences, positive spiritual experiences). However, there was significantly more anxiety in respondents who (1) (have) experience(d) ego loss/deconstruction, (2) have difficulties to (re)turn their attention to an internal bodily state (low mindfulness) and/or (3) experience a lack of self-concept clarity. Respondents who did not succeed in making sense of their OBE experience more anxiety, more ego loss/deconstruction, lower mindfulness and higher self-unclarity. Finally, the article examines how respondents explain their OBE (by using, for instance, medical, spiritual or psychological explanations) and how and why respondents do (not) succeed in making sense of the OBE.
SPE/IADC Managed Pressure Drilling and Underbalanced Operations Conference & Exhibition, 2015
Downhole incidents such as kick, lost circulation, pack-off, and hole cleaning issues are important contributors to downtime in drilling. In managed pressure drilling (MPD), operations margins are typically narrow, implying a risk of more frequent incidents and more severe consequences than during conventional drilling. Detection and handling of symptoms of downhole drilling contingencies at an early stage are therefore crucial for the reliability and safety of MPD operations. This paper describes a method for early detection and localization of incidents, based on a fit-forpurpose model of the downhole pressure hydraulics, distributed pressure measurements from wired pipe, and statistical change detection methods. Using statistical change detection methods, it is possible to detect the incidents and their location at a very early stage when small changes in process data are covered in measurement noise, which may be very hard to observe for a human operator.
