Anthropologie du christianisme en Océanie

The purpose of this book is to provide an overview of the diversity of Pacific Christianity, through an exploration of its relationships with culture, politics and colonial history in various societies of this region. The contributors are: Sylvia Tuheiava-Richaud, Eric Wittersheim, Jacqueline Ryle, Gwendoline Malogne-Fer, John Barker, Yannick Fer and Joel Robbins. The first four chapters examine on one hand the strong and complex connections between colonisation and mission; and on the other hand the role of Christianity as a support for identity claim during the postcolonial period. The next three chapters focus on more specific religious patterns (healing, conversion and prayer) and the social, cultural and historical contexts in which they take place.
