Automatic Batch Weighing System incorporates various technologies at different hierarchical levels for automation of batch weighing process. The paper reports the work carried out at PG dissertation level and presents the detailed design and implementation of the system for process industries. Sensors and MODBUS-compliant modules are wired to form an RS-485 network at field level, which is connected to a PC based main controller. The design incorporates DataSocket Server, along with HMI based indication and control system. Remote access and control are also availed through intranet/internet. Various functionalities of the proposed system have been validated through laboratory implementation.

ABSTRACT The production of Wet Cast concrete paving units with complex decorative edge shapes has traditionally required operators to remove cured products from their moulds (de-moulding) by hand and to stack the finished product onto pallets by hand. A study utilising postural analysis of these operations taking into account the weights of paving units involved some of which exceeded 25kgs.
The restoration of an iron making blast furnace automation system is a stimulating challenge that involves process, electrical and automation competences and that has to take heavily into account the need to fulfill completely the safety requirements for the operators and the environment. The authors had the opportunity to face such a challenge and the aim of this paper is to resume the approaches, the solutions and experiences collected during the engineering and commissioning phases.

The insinuating speaker, when successful, achieves two goals: they introduce a contentious content into a conversation while simultaneously marking it as not being officially stated. This positioning allows the speaker to plausibly deny any intention behind the implied message when challenged. I argue that reconciling the communicative nature of insinuation and its off-record status within the Gricean framework of overt communication appears to present a significant conceptual puzzle. In this paper, I address this challenge by introducing the notion of Gricean insinuation, which I define as communication that is both partially overt and partially covert. I start by exploring the nature and complexity of the insinuation puzzle mentioned earlier and reviewing two existing Gricean solutions to it. Then, I proceed to analyse three concepts relevant to the insinuation phenomenon: indirectness, cancellability, and plausible deniability. Following this, I introduce the concept of Gricean insinuation. In particular, I use the common ground framework to elucidate what I refer to as the ‘Fake One-Way Mirror Effect’, and apply the resulting model to explain some examples of insinuation as acts of off-record communication. In conclusion, I assess the model’s effectiveness and propose directions for future research.
