Paphos Agora Project vol.1, 2020
THE ENTIRE TEXT OF THE BOOK ! This publication opens a new publishing series — PAPHOS AGORA PROJECT. Its purpose is to publish research results of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland), project and cooperating institutions in the Agora and, more broadly, in the ancient city of NEA PAPHOS — a UNESCO world heritage site and a long-standing capital of Cyprus. This project has an international and interdiscplinary character. The first volume presents the first research results from the years 2011–2015. The volume comprises the aims, stages of development, methodology and chronology of PAP, history of research in the Agora and Nea Paphos, stratigraphy and architecture, pottery, lamps and terracottas, metal, stone and glass objects, animal bones, non-invasive prospection by the Hamburg University, and landscape research, as well as extensive summary of the results. Further volumes of the series are planned in the coming years.
The geoarchaeological research conducted consisted of a geomorphological prospecting of the Paphos region and a geophysical examination of the ancient town of Nea Paphos and its agora. In addition, the morphogenetic processes that shaped the coastal plains of the Cypriot area were also determined and a research hypothesis that could explain the shrinking of the bay and the decline of the harbour north of the cape of Paphos was formulated. The Mala GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) ProEx System, which is compatible with shielded antenna of 500MHz, was used for the geophysical survey of the area. 95 profiles were completed in a northsouth direction (1m apart) and 51 in an eastwest direction (2m apart). One of the main difficulties was to distinguish the stone structures, as the bottoms of their walls were formed at the natural level of the rock and there were pebble layers located above them. Using versatile geophysical techniques, we have attempted to answer a couple of questions: Was the agora area a fully built-up one and what does the continuation of the walls into undiscovered sections of the agora signify?

Fieldwork carried out in the context of the Palaepaphos Urban Landscape Project (PULP) since 2006 led to the discovery of previously unrecorded urban monuments. A purpose-built complex designed to serve storage needs and industrial activities was revealed on the plateau of Hadjiabdoulla, one km to the east of the sanctuary of Aphrodite; 70m north of the plateau, which is now confidently viewed as the citadel of the royal dynasties of Paphos in the 5th and 4th centuries BC, the hillock of Laona was identified as a man-made mound that had been raised over an early 5th-century BC rampart. The well-preserved status of the new monuments offered an unprecedented opportunity to approach the political economy of the city-state of Paphos in the Cypro-Classical period. "From the metalliferous sources to the citadel complex of Ancient Paphos: archaeo-environmental analysis of the mining and the built environment") was the answer to the urgent need of PULP to develop a state-of-the-art, archaeo-environmental component. It initiated the macroscopic and microscopic study of a wide range of primary data from the built environment and enabled comparison and integration with data extracted from the macro-scale analysis of the catchment of Paphos, especially in relation to the study of copper slag located within the metalliferous foothills of the Paphos Forest.

The Upper Agora of the Pisidian city of Sagalassos represented the beating heart of the local community, in providing the stage for the familiar fusion of commerce, politics, administration and cult that characterised urban life in antiquity. The current state of the agora, as it has been unearthed by archaeologists, is the product of centuries of monumental accretion, re-arrangement, make-over and removal, making it an excellent platform for the diachronic study of urban development. In this sense, the Upper Agora constitutes an architectural manifestation of processes of urbanisation and community formation that occurred at this ancient settlement. In 2014, a two-year programme of control excavations was initiated in order to complete reconstructing the chronology of origin, construction and changes to the public square, as well as to finalise the excavation and study of the surrounding public buildings and monuments. It is the aim of this paper to present the preliminary results of these targeted small-scale excavations conducted during the campaigns of 2014 and 2015 in a sequence of seven chronological phases, representing the occupation history of the square and its immediate surroundings between the 3rd century BCE and the 7th century CE.
Celebrity endorsements in advertising is one the most effective tools to promote and inform a new product or service. Several previous research has been proven that celebrity endorsers as a marketing platform brings many positive impact on consumer purchase intention, especially for new brand entering new market. Those researches have proved empirically the effectiveness and the positive impact of celebrity endorsements in advertising, particularly on purchase intention and also revealed that several dimensions that built celebrity endorsement. By using structural equation modeling (SEM) through Smart-PLS, this research investigates the impact ofcelebrity endorsements variables on purchase intention. The data used in this study is the primary data. The data itself collected directly by the researcher to answer the problem or research objectives. To test the independent variable on the dependent variable, a survey was conducted in Indonesia by using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was self-administered, meaning respondents were given statement items and filled in responses themselves through the online survey platform, namely Survey Monkey. Total samples are 100 respondents. The findings reveal that celebrity endorsement has a positive and significant impact on purchase intention, and the three dimensions (attractiveness, expertise, and trustworthiness) play an important role on forming celebrity endorsement variable. The correlation values and loading factor of the three constructs; attractiveness, trustworthiness, and expertise, represent the contribution on celebrity endorsement. Moreover, trustworthiness of the celebrity is the biggest contributor on celebrity endorsement variable. This is followed by attractiveness and expertise dimensions.
