This study deals with electoral politics and its relationship with Tumandarana System (a local landlordism) in Dera Ghazi Khan, a historic base camp of such a unique feudal system. This study is an exploration of Tumandars involvement in politics and elections of National Assembly and Provincial Assembly from 1988 to 2013. So, there is a scarcity of scholarly literature on this issue and this study is an attempt to fill this gap. The concept of Tumandar derived from Mangol history which means of ten thousand armed men. It has been modified time-to-time. Now, these Tumandars of Dera Ghazi Khan called as Tribal leader. Why Tumandarana System is dominating electoral politics of this region? This is a primary research question which have been explored. by applying qualitative and quantitative approaches and concludes that the patterns of tribal society are related to reliance upon horticultural system farming, having a strong grip over social economic resources. Tribal leaders have used this system to remain in power politics as well. Tribal leaders not only lead the tribe but, they are also political and administrative head of their tribe. Moreover, Tumandars or Tribal leaders create hurdle for vote casting and in the way of democratic system in district politics.
Only looking at the Congress Party can obscure the fact that political dynasties, in different forms and degrees, exist in a number of political parties in India. There are many examples of political families ruling the roost across the states but digging deeper shows us that the malaise goes to the village level as well. Therefore, to completely examine the extent to which Indian politics is dynastic, this article investigates strategies and networks of a local political dynasty in the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh (UP). It explores how a family, by getting elected its sons into the local political bodies, becomes a powerful political dynasty over a period of time and how entry of this dynasty into the Indian political system is assisted by political parties and caste associations. Furthermore, this article shows the ways in which popular notions of leadership and manhood play important role in the making of a dynast along with the importance of dynastic ties for the marginalized rather than privileged groups.

A more critical discussion of the role institutions may or may not play with regard to the emergence and collapse of dynasties around the world, while also taking the findings of the broader literature on the nexus between democratization and dynasties into account would have strengthened the explanatory power of the theoretical arguments put forward in the book.
Kudippaka : The word " Kudippaka " denotes family feud ie, hatred between two families. In medieval days the atrocities or murder committed by any on the member of another family might lead to kudippaka between these families. In such cases the members belonging to a family who declared kudippaka against another family as a revenge for any serious reasons like murder had the right to eliminate not only the elder male members but also their children. This would continue on both sides as long as the Kudippaka between them existed. Kudippaka may be recalled that the politics of Kannur, unlike other parts of Kerala and even that of the neighbouring districts in Malabar, has a strong dose of violence in it. This violent clashes, at one time between the CPI(M) and Congress and now intermittently occurring between CPI(M) and BJP resulting in wanton killing of party workers on both sides, remain a standing testimony to this contention.
South Asian Sovereignty: The Conundrum of Worldly Power, 2020
In this chapter, I explore the tension present in these two very different understandings of politics and the selection of leaders in contemporary India, namely competing notions of democratic and divine election. While some might draw the distinction between the two forms as struggle of a modern, rational political system versus a traditional religious worldview, I argue that the overlap between the two ways of viewing election is based on the development of political theologies in the early modern period in which sovereignty itself was reconceptualized in the transition from kingdoms to princely states under British control.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) started its maiden political venture in united Andhra Pradesh under the slogan of linguistic identity's pride. Surprisingly, in a record time after its establishment, TDP captured impressive victory and formed a government in 1983. Though TDP based its political slogan and agenda on mastering Telugu people's pride, in reality, it had succinct hidden challenges to face and address. One such prominent challenge was in the Telangana region, now called Telangana State (TS). The present paper highlights, based on what factors, the TDP was politically successful. Furthermore, based on what kind of other factors the TDP faced almost vanquished position in the subsequent times in TS. Methodologically, the paper engages in qualitative and secondary electoral data synthesis. Moreover, the paper constructs about 35 years of TDP's political lineage from 'consolidation to fragmentation' in Telangana.

Issues in Social Science
This report is about a critical analysis of elections in Odisha over the past few decades. Diverse social groups in the state have been politicised and mobilised for electoral purposes based on social cleavages, rather than common economic interest, ideology or leadership. A theoretical framework has been developed in almost every district to analyse and trace the processes of tradition and reconfiguration of the electoral landscape. It answers the questions: What message does the state hold for Parliament or assembly elections? How do the people, who belong to a state, respond to national and state leaderships? Our state has been receiving appreciation as a platform where mainstream politics unfolds and, in a significant way, shapes the national politics including the formation and stability of the government at the Centre, a trend that started in the post-Congress polity. But it may raise a lot of questions among the political pundits and strategic gurus about how the new style of...
