CONCRETE GRADES WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE MIX RATIOS

2019, Mr Emmanuel Ofori publication

A simple table showing concrete mix ratios (Design mix & Nominal mix) for various concrete grades, a typical calculated example of M40 grade concrete and required water proportion for most ratios.

(1 : 0.25 : 0.5) Nominal mix : has defined mix ratio, normally used for small scale works. Design mix : mix ratios in this range are normally attain through lab test and various options; these include, cement type, Workability of concrete, Durability of concrete, Maximum nominal size of aggregate, Grading and type of aggregate, Quality Control at site etc. M40 calculation: Assume compressive load 900kN was applied on a 28days srength of concrete area of cube = 15cm * 15 cm = 22500mm (mm) X'tics compressive strenght of concrete = (load/cross sectional area of specimen) = 900KN/22500 = 900000/22500 40N/mm^2 high
