There has been unprecedented development of research into human– animal interaction (HAI) in recent years, and this has produced rapid growth in our knowledge and understanding of the benefits that accrue from pet ownership. • Recent evidence and developments in the field of HAI have improved our understanding of the role that pets play in cardiovascular health, their ability to help us cope with stress, some of the ways they can enable us to retain health and mobility into old age, that their mere presence helps us to engage with new people and strengthens communities, and that they may even enhance our immune function. • Future research would be enhanced by the inclusion of pet-related questions in national health surveys; the adoption of standardized protocols and measures; incorporation of new technologies; and further exploration of animal-assisted interventions (AAI), including the expanding roles for therapy and service animals.

This paper focuses on the design of an innovative active braking control system for two-wheeled vehicles which can handle panic braking on curves. In the field of two-wheeled vehicles the spread of electronic control systems its still in its infancy, as today only a few commercial motorbikes are equipped with Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS). Moreover, the few ABS systems available are certified to work only when panic braking occurs on straight road. As will be shown, to guarantee safety when braking on curves, the designed controller needs to rely on an online measure of the vehicle roll angle. Thus, to prove the industrial applicability of the proposed control algorithm, we also describe how such quantity can be effectively estimated via a suitable algorithm based on a low-cost sensors configuration, whose effectiveness is assessed in simulation and also on an instrumented test vehicle. The results concerning the active braking control system will be tested on a very detailed multibody simulation model of a two-wheeled vehicle, MSC BikeSim®.

Este artículo analiza la representación de voces “folclóricas” chilenas en el catálogo estadounidense de la Smithsonian Institution, específicamente de discos de sus sellos Folkways, Monitor y Paredon. Cada uno a su manera, buscaba registrar y difundir sonidos de los pueblos del mundo, ya sea con un fin educativo, solidario o proselitista. Se interrogan, por una parte, las estrategias discursivas llevadas a cabo para perfilar voces “auténticas”, cuestionando el tratamiento laxo de la información recopilada y su relación con los sonidos registrados. Se busca visibilizar la participación de profesionales de la etnomusicología en la producción de imágenes musicales para las audiencias norteamericanas e internacionales. Asimismo, se enfatiza en los usos políticos que quienes producen esperan dar a los discos en el contexto de las transformaciones progresistas con vocación popular.

The Subject of our study is “crime of defamation” provided under the title of “Crimes Against Honor” in Turkish Penal Code No 5237, Article 125. Our study consists two parts: In the first part, the overall structure of the crime of defamation was examined; in the second part the consept of justification, particularly “Right to Impart Information” with regard to crimes of defamation committed through print media and principles and variaties of the criminal liability under our Press Law No. 5187 are analyzed. In this sense, freedom and duty of the press are also needed to be briefly discussed; and decisions of the Court of Cassation were referred so far as they are related.

Recent studies have highlighted the efficacy of mindfulness training in alleviating stress and anxiety among students while also enhancing coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills. This one-group pretest-posttest study aimed to assess the impact of a five-week online mindfulness-based stress reduction program on academic burnout in senior high school students from Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Pasig City. The study utilized the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory for students (OLBI-S) to measure burnout, focusing on its dimensions of exhaustion and disengagement. Descriptive statistics and paired samples t-tests were conducted using SPSS® due to the study's small sample size. Results indicated no significant differences between pretest and posttest scores in disengagement and overall academic burnout. However, there was a statistically significant decrease in scores on the exhaustion subscale post-intervention, suggesting that the mindfulness program may specifically mitigate feelings of physical and emotional depletion associated with academic demands. These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the potential of mindfulness interventions in educational settings to target specific aspects of burnout among high school students.
