The function of the West Bank–Israeli separation barrier, designed to segregate Palestinians away from Israeli territory, was subverted by the COVID-19 crisis. For the first time, the barrier locked West Bank Palestinians inside Israel. For a two-month period, construction workers from the West Bank were sequestered at work sites in Israel to reduce movement of people between the territories while also minimizing economic losses. This turn of events illustrates the ad hoc economic interests underlying Israeli security policy toward the West Bank.

O PODER JUDICIÁRIO NA ERA DE AMEAÇAS À DEMOCRACIA: O TIGRE E O ASSÉDIO HERMENÊUTICO DO TRADICIONALISMO , 2024

RESUMO: Aborda-se, neste artigo, a ideologia Tradicionalista que deve ser considerada no seu aspecto teórico e visão prática porque se apresenta, atualmente, como uma alternativa à modernidade ao propor, mediante o assédio hermenêutico e o dissenso, a edificação de um regime fundado em valores antidemocráticos, antiliberais e anticientíficos. O Tradicionalismo (conservadorismo radical) é capaz de projetar o autoritarismo sobre a sociedade civil, as instituições e os Poderes do Estado. Na prática, os seus defensores professam o colonialismo epistemológico que impõe a hierarquia na sociedade mediante o auxílio tanto da tecnologia disponível em rede virtual, quanto da violência simbólica ou real. Suas ações investem contra os direitos humanos e os sistemas democráticos porque estes asseguram o sufrágio, a liberdade de pensamento e de expressão. Trata-se de um retorno ao populismo, à mitologia e ao esoterismo, resumidamente, a liquidação do projeto civilizatório do Iluminismo. ABSTRACT: This article addresses the Traditionalist ideology, which should be considered in its theoretical aspect and practical vision because it currently presents itself as an alternative to modernity by proposing, through hermeneutic harassment and dissent, the construction of a regime based on antidemocratic, antiliberal and antiscientific values. Traditionalism (radical conservatism) is capable of projecting authoritarianism over civil society, institutions and State Powers. In practice, its defenders profess epistemological colonialism that imposes hierarchy on society through the help of both technology available on the virtual network and symbolic or real violence. Their actions attack human rights and democratic systems because these ensure suffrage, freedom of thought and expression. It is a return to populism, mythology and esotericism; in short, the liquidation of the civilizing project of the Enlightenment.
