Original 1634 poem by Giambattista Basile
The motif of the competition between the monstrous mother and the young maiden appear both in early European variants of the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ fairy tale as well as in the late 20th-century science fiction movies Alien and Aliens. However, both the fairy tale and the science fiction movies complicate the binary between the good and bad women, and by deconstructing this binary we can see how the evil mothers and the alien queens can be sympathetic while Ripley and Sleeping Beauty also have their monstrous sides.
Sleeping Beauty is a very old fairy tale, with roots going back at least a thousand years. Containing universal themes of beauty, prophecy, loss, and the awakening of desire, it has captured our collective imagination for centuries. The story of a beautiful sleeping girl, caught in an enchantment that can only be broken by true love, has made its way from 10 th century Baghdad, to Baroque Italy, pre-revolutionary France, Victorian England, and beyond. It is Robert Louis Stevenson's "child of air/that lingers in the garden there," who decides the fate of all fairy tales. Stories live inside the imaginations of those who listen to or read them. Each fresh telling gives birth to new meanings, as cultural blueprints are projected onto the text. While Bruno Bettelheim examines universal themes from an orthodox Freudian perspective, I am focusing on the cultural variations of the tale as they are transmitted through translation, and the consequent transculturation of Sleeping Beauty's enduring motifs and patterns. Briefly, I am going to examine four major versions of Sleeping Beauty: The Ninth Captain's Tale, found in the Thousand and One Nights from somewhere between the ninth-thirteenth centuries; Sun, Moon and Talia, from the Italian storyteller Giambattista Basile, published in his popular collection "The Pentamerone;" La belle au bois dormant or The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood by Charles Perrault; Little Briar Rose (Dornröschen) by The Brothers Grimm, and a few examples of modern re-tellings. The tale has traveled far.

Abstract : Every society has its folk tales and fairy tales, which are passed from one generation to the other by oral speech. Because fairy tales are universal in all ages, societies, races and cultures they have many similar aspects in their plots, forms and contents. When we examine fairy tales in a feminist reading, it is obvious that traditional social norms or traditional gender roles trait young minds with stereotypical gender patterns so early in so–called fairy tales for children, lots of them are for adults. The fairy tales produce passive female and active male behaviors idealized in patriarchal society that female characters are stereotypically portrayed as submissive, dependent, powerless, incapable and obedient while male figures are typically portrayed as dynamic, independent, powerful and disobedient. This paper not only gives a short definition and historical background of the term fairy tale, but also focuses on a closer feminist reading of traditional gender roles in fairy tales in English Fairy Tales (1890) collected by Joseph Jacobs and Forty Four Turkish Fairy Tales (1913) collected by Ignácz Kúnos. In a globalized, high-tech world with a competitive employment market, employability skills have grown in importance. Assessment of the graduates' employability skills has come to need in order to strategically align curriculum with the industry's demands. This study examined the employability of BS Accountancy graduates of Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Main Campus, Dapitan City. It used descriptive method of research utilizing questionnaire as the principal tool of gathering data. It revealed that most of the Accountancy graduates rated above average in all three skills: fundamental, personal management, and teamwork skills. Further, it was found out that there is no significant difference on the level of employability skills when analyzed according to sex, job position, industry/sector, length of service, and employment status. However, a significant difference was revealed on the personal management skills of BS Accountancy graduates when analyzed according to age. The Accountancy Department should keep abreast with the updates on related standards and provide hands-on training or extensive internship program to widen the skills development of the Accountancy students and adapt to technological advancement in the field of work. Future research is encouraged on this matter on the point of view of the employers in public, private, government, and academe sector.

In a recent article, Emmet O’Regan has argued that the First Vatican Council not only defined dogmatically that the papal Magisterium is infallible under certain conditions but also “definitively excluded the possibility of a heretical pope” by elevating St. Robert Bellarmine’s “fourth proposition” to the “dignity of a dogma.” This article argues that when Pastor Aeternus is read in light of the official Relatio, it is clear that the council was not intending to exclude the possibility of a heretical pope, that is, the opinion of Albert Pighius. Instead, Gasser makes it clear that the council was intending to define what Bellarmine called the “most common and certain opinion,” which is “whether the pope is able to be a heretic or not, he is not able in any way to define a heretical proposition that must be believed by the whole Church.” O’Regan has misidentified which view of Bellarmine the council intended to define.
