Chepkwony, E; Matere, A & Ndaita, J. (2024). Principals’ Decision-Making Skills and Management of Student Discipline in Public Secondary Schools in Bomet County, Kenya. Journal of Popular Education in Africa. 8(8), 55 – 75. , 2024
Decision-making is an important set of skills that principals needed in the management of schools. These skills are particularly useful when dealing with student indiscipline. The study examined the relationship between principals' decision-making skills and their ability to manage student discipline among secondary schools in Bomet County, Kenya. The study was descriptive survey by design. The target population was 572, constituting of 5 Sub-County Education Directors, 189 principals and 189 deputy principals and 189 senior teachers. A sample size of 239 respondents, consisting of 78 principals, 78 deputy principals and 78 senior teachers proportionally distributed and all the 5 Sub-County Education Directors, was obtained using Yamane's formula. Simple random sampling and purposive sampling were utilised to select respondents. Data was then collected using a structured questionnaire and an interview schedule. Interview data was subjected to content analysis while quantitative data was analysed using SPSS version 24 to generate descriptive statistics. The results of the study revealed that principals' decision-making skills had a positive and significant effect on the management of student discipline in public secondary schools (β4= 0.261, p=0.005). Therefore, key decisionmaking skills such as focusing on relevant details, working cohesively with teachers and students, reasoning, considering all available and relevant data, instincts, teamwork, emotional intelligence, brainstorming and organizational skills, among others, helped principals to better address student indiscipline problems in schools. It is therefore recommended that school administrators and teachers should enforce school policies consistently to promote positive student behaviour. School principals and teachers should be trained on how to enforce these policies and respond appropriately to disciplinary issues that arise in the schools. This will help create a positive learning environment and promote student discipline.

This entry presents a brief history of the emergence of feminism, gender and queer in North American archaeology, which, along with the United Kingdom and Scandinavia to a lesser degree, represents the geographic origin and center of such work. The key concepts as used by archaeologists are defined; the relationship among them is explored and shown to be both problematic and productive. The place of feminism, gender and queer within North American archaeology today is characterized and, finally, likely avenues of future research are suggested. The greatest impact of feminist, gender, and queer archaeologies has been on the authority of positivist approaches, the objectivity of interpretation, equity issues within the profession, collaborative knowledge making and the understanding of key archaeological interpretive concepts.
In: Yuval Gadot, The Landfill of Early Roman Jerusalem: The 2013‒2014 Excavations in Area D3 (University Park, PA: Pennsylvania State University Press, 2022), 97–122. , 2022
The chalk vessels presented in this chapter belong to a unique group that first appeared in the second half of the 1st century BCE and all but disappeared after the Bar Kokhba Revolt of 132–135 CE. Although vessels in this group have been found at hundreds of sites throughout the country, only a few significant assemblages have been published to date. The present corpus, which derives in its entirety from a small section of the city dump, excavated on the eastern slope of the City of David (Area D3), is comprised of 1003 fragments of various types of chalk vessels: mugs, pitchers, bowls, lids, stoppers, goblets, trays, large kraters, debitage and additional assorted objects. The quantity of fragments in our assemblage is unrivaled by any other published corpus and provides the first opportunity to conduct a statistical analysis of the frequencies of the various chalk vessel types in use in Jerusalem during the 1st century CE.

Theosophy Across Boundaries, edited by Hans Martin Kraemer and Julian Strube, 2020
The article examines Jewish Theosophists’ aspiration to spiritualize Judaism in light of Theosophy and to elevate the image of Judaism within the Theosophical Society. It discusses the ways in which members of the Association of Hebrew Theosophists, as well as other Jewish fellows of the Theosophical Society, confronted opposition from Jewish Orthodox circles and responded to the negative image of Judaism within the Theosophical Society. The article illustrates that Kabbalah played a central role in the endeavor of the Jewish Theosophists to bring about a spiritual, Theosophical reform of Judaism, as well as in their endeavor to enrich Theosophy with Jewish spirituality. It shows that many Jewish Theosophists argued that the Jewish mystical tradition was the source of ancient wisdom and identical with Theosophical doctrines. These claims served to counter the allegations from Jewish opponents that the Jewish Theosophists had distanced themselves from Judaism, as well as to defend Judaism and improve its image in the eyes of non-Jewish Theosophists. Finally, it argues that the Association of Hebrew Theosophists, as well as other Jewish fellows of the Theosophical Society, made a unique attempt, at that time, to create what could be termed a modern, Western, universalistic form of Judaism that embraced Kabbalah and presented Jewish mysticism as the central component of the Jewish tradition.
