The mathematical model of the process of cutting of a layer of plant material with the use of the drum cutting unit is presented in the study. The drawn up model, following its positive experimental verification, may be used at the stage of designing new constructions of cutting drums used in self-propelled or stationary chaff cutters. The new model makes it possible to calculate the cutting operations made by individual drum’s knives at the time of cutting of the material’s layer and to determine its starting torque.

In order to investigate the properties of cutting loads on shearer drum, a series of full-scale shearer drum cutting tests were conducted in the National Energy Coal Mining Machinery Equipment Research and Design Center of China. The pick forces and the torque acting on the drum were measured and recorded under different cutting conditions by the strain sensors that were embedded in the cutting picks. Besides, an attempt was made to simulate the shearer drum cutting process. For this purpose, a computer program named Particle Flow Code in three dimensions (PFC3D) based on discrete element method (DEM) was used. The rock sample was models by graded particle assemblies and the micro-properties were calibrated by modeling the uniaxial compressive strength tests. The cutting process for the front and back drums with different traction speeds were simulated with this model. The torque of drums and forces of each pick were obtained during the simulation. Reasonable agreement and significant correlations were found between experiment and numerical simulation in terms of cutting forces of picks and the mean torque of the drums. The specific energy increased with the increase of traction speed in experiments, which was reproduced well in numerical simulation. Moreover, according to the analysis in frequency domain, the vibration of drum torque consists of components with multiple frequencies below 50 Hz, which is observed in both experiment and simulation. Therefore, numerical simulation by PFC3D is an easier, faster and reasonable method in the prediction of drum cutting load and design of shearer drum.

HighlightsThis article presents test results of a new cutting drum design for an agricultural forage harvester. The energy consumption in the cutting process of rape decreased with increasing speed and cutting angle.Cutting the plant material layers with the new design of the cutting drum is more efficient and productive.Cross-cutting of plant material into chopped straw is an important alternative to the currently used cutting method.. A comparative study of the classic design and a new design for the drum cutting assembly of a chaff cutter was conducted to determine the performance characteristics of both designs when cutting rape straw into defined lengths. The new design of the cutting drum made oblique cutting possible, which was not possible with the classic design. For assessment of the cutting process, two indicators were used: the effectiveness of the cutting process, and the unit energy consumption during the cutting process. The experimental results showed that the new des...

India is an agricultural nation with the majority of its population residing in rural areas. The rural landscape is predominantly occupied by agricultural activities, including crop production and poultry farming by using of chaff cutter machines. The conventional cutter machines are unsafe design resulted in severe injuries and needed more workforces. Taking into consideration the limitations of the current conventional cutter machine, this project has been undertaken to develop and manufacture a chaff cutter machine, aiming to mitigate the potential for serious injuries and enhance operational efficiency. First of all, the work of design of the chaff cutter machine will be developed and analyzed. The new chaff cutter machine will be tried out for cutting various types of animal feed like dry straw, grass, corn straw, wheat stalk, etc. We'll also check how cost-effective the new machines are compared to the old-style ones and newer models. This paper talks about how we made and tested a chaff cutter machine in India. We'll also look at how much it costs to use the new chaff cutting machine compared to the old ones.

Nepal is an agricultural country with most of its population residing in rural areas. The majority of the rural community is engaged in agricultural crop production, cattle farming, and poultry production. To prepare feed for animals, conventional grass-cutting machines are intensively used which do not have a friendly operation. The conventional cutter machine's unsafe design resulted in severe injuries and needed more workforce. Keeping in view the drawbacks of the existing traditional cutter machine, this project has been carried out to design and construct a chaff cutter machine to reduce the risks of severe injuries and increased working efficiency. First of all, the working design (3D modeling) of the chaff cutter machine will be developed to analyze its suitability. The development process to fabricate the chaff cutter machine is then carried out by the National Innovation

Bamboo is harvested almost all over the world. In the various Asian region, bamboo is almost available in every part. Its harvesting provides job opportunities to many people, due to the properties of its various species have demand in construction, technology has increased a lot. In modern trend demand for handcrafted art and natural artefact increased. To fulfil the increased demand for bamboo, cutting the operation of bamboo must be paced up. In traditional harvesting processes which are carried out manually take more time, labour work and also provide damage to surrounding undergrown bamboos. To overcome this and to minimize stresses on workers, an attempt has been made to design a bamboo cluster cutting machine, which is simple in design and can be handled by the common man. The demand for a bamboo cutting machine is higher and it is time to respond to the problem aroused.

The impact of constructional and exploitation param eters on the degree of unevenness has been presente d in this article. The studies were conducted on a stand equipped with a drum cutting unit allowing for both the performa nce of lateral and oblique cutting. The plant material designed for th e studies was rye and oats straw. Based on the anal ysis of the results of the studies it was found, that the degree of uneven ness of oat straw for just the same constructional and exploitational parameters of the drum cutting unit was on average 5% higher than the degree of unevenness of rye straw’ s chaff.

The process of cutting with a blade is largely applied in agricultural equipment and is used to process raw materials with different physical and mechanical properties. Nonetheless, the functional relation between the kinematic parameters of a vibroblade and the crucial power parameters of the vibration processing has not yet been studied in great depth so far. This type of studies is essential to create databases for further investigation and design of novel cutting machinery or technologies to ensure effective processing of vibrocutting. Our objective was to obtain the power characteristics of vibrocutting through laboratory experiments [using the example of vibrocutting of common reed (Phragmites australis)] and define the combination of factors (i.e., vibration amplitude, frequency and the blade feeding speed) at the minimum cutting force. The following relation of the blade feeding speed (V) and vibration speed of the toothed blade (Vt) has been established as optimal kinematic...
Sugarcane is one of the world's foremost cash crops, and sugarcane planting and mechanization are the development trends of the industry. Sugarcane planting with traditional methods is costly, time-consuming, and the necessary compression of buds in the field is not achieved easily because of stalk planting in sugarcane. Nevertheless, most of the planting machines in the world do not have the function of bud prevention. The bud chip technology holds great promise for the rapid multiplication of new cane varieties. However, important operating and performance evaluation parameters of the machine are required for proper development of a prototype machine. Therefore, this present research work is focused on the empirical design of a sugarcane bud cutter. In designing the prototype sugarcane bud cutter, the focus was on design considerations and requirements, material selection and justification, and mathematical modelling of the useful parameters using established mathematical and mechanics of machine equations. The result of connecting rod force and the force along sliding which are obtained from the crank and connecting rod is high as compared to the length of the crank and connecting rod. Angular velocity and acceleration have a defined relationship with each other. Besides, it was established that a minimum cutting force, torque, and power of 504.23 N, 33.18 Nm, and 2 hp are required.
