My research interests focus on the varieties of contemporary culture and practice.
I lecture B.A. and M.A. level Social Anthropology courses. The topics of the courses are very closely touching issues of contemporary religiosity, post-colonialism, inter/intra cultural exchanges.

This case study presents the reasoning process behind choosing the topic and methodology of a qua... more This case study presents the reasoning process behind choosing the topic and methodology of a quantitative research study. It includes the description and reflection upon the solutions to the difficulties encountered by the researcher when choosing the topic, the measurement tool, and the data collection method. These issues were corroborated with the strict timeline established for the data collection, and they amplified the impact on the data volume and their quality. All these factors impacted the sample size and the reliability of the study’s statistical results, while they improved the author’s experience and ability to run research studies.

This study is focused on cultural phenomena of contemporary Europe: the creation of a new religio... more This study is focused on cultural phenomena of contemporary Europe: the creation of a new religious identity without cultural precedent in European cultural history. It will concentrate on non-Asian Buddhist converts, who have adopted religious world views different from those of their ethnic heritage and the mainstream culture they live in and who use Buddhism as the value-source for their children's upbringing. The parents who, to a certain degree, master Buddhist practice and are attached to this particular religious culture, accumulate a specific religious capital which develops when there are higher levels of religious participation, knowledge and experience, including social networks. The aim of my study is to illustrate how accumulated religious capital and value models affect parental choice regarding children's education. How are these values transmitted within the families of different Buddhist streams? What is the role of the local Buddhist community in family life?

Drawing more on Hall’s concept of representation I would like to concentrate on the practices of “stereotyping”, drawing out the links between representation and stereotype that are closely connected with the production of mass culture, consumerism, institutions, and social media. Photos from galleries and museums and heritage locations taken and shared on social media can be understood as a commodified presentation of the tourist experience of an attractive location that has come into existence in order to narrate an ideal trip. After a picture is shared on social networks, the process of the commodification of an illusion starts − an illusion that was shared and presented as a personal authentic proof of the visit to the location and experiencing a unique moment. Coping with the quarter-life crisis the buddhist way in the Czech Republic

The article examines the phenomenon known as the quarter-life crisis. The aim was to explore how ... more The article examines the phenomenon known as the quarter-life crisis. The aim was to explore how young people in the Czech Republic practising Buddhism experience this crisis and how Buddhism influences the way they cope. Qualitative research was used to gain insight into how respondents experience this life phase and whether they perceive the world of too many opportunities as a challenge or a problem. The relationship with consumer culture and material consumption was discussed along with the practice of Buddhism and the way Buddhism-based values play a role in influencing respondents' lives. Respondents showed they are missing a set of principles and values to ease their orientation in the world and their decision-making process. They found in Buddhism a structure that helps them form a delimitation against consumer and non-sustainable production. After many decades of being static displays of things, they are now changing into places of interaction and communication on a variety of levels. The text is presenting some current patterns of developing a sense of collective belonging and also it is looking at the communication processes between institutions and visitors with a focus on the role of digital technologies and social media in the process of preserving, narrating, and sharing the object of art and beauty. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a framework for further research on digital practice linked with contemporary social identities and art institutions that are a significant social institution with public value and the ability to link the local cultural heritage global context.
