This interconnection is anchored in the classical Greek system of humours and temperaments, known as Humoral Pathology. Originally developed by the Greek physician Hippocrates of Kos in the fifth century BCE, the system was refined by Claudius Galenus in the second century CE. According to their conception, humans are microcosms in the centre of the macrocosm, influenced by all of the elements and qualities of the larger cosmos. Everything was organized in groups of four: four fluids or humores, four temperaments, four elements (air, earth, fire and water), four seasons and four life phases. Each of these had four qualities: warm, cold, wet and dry. 1 According to this theory, the human body has four basic fluids: blood (wet and warm), yellow bile (warm and dry), black bile (dry and cold) and phlegm (cold and wet) (ill. 2, p. 145). This leads to the delineation of four human types, each with its specific temperament: sanguine, in which blood is the dominating fluid; choleric, in which yellow bile dominates; melancholic, in which black bile dominates; and phlegmatic, in which phlegm prevails. Each of these types is

Only ca. 780 Utrecht became a true bishopric under bishop Albric. Under Willibrord not Saint Martin but Saint Salvator (= Christ) was the main patron-saint with a rather large church built by Willibrord. However Boniface ca. 752 has changed the patronate to Saint Martin, with a much smaller church founded already by king Dagobert ca. 625. The location of these churches is discussed in the article, as well as the vicissitudes of the bishops seat through and after the Viking invasions of the the 9th century and its expamsion in the 10th and 11th centuries.

The villages from where these peasants came along the river Rhine are well known. In recent years much research has been done about their juridical as well as political and economic background. The paper, in German, is about the historiography of this multidisciplinary research.

Today, it means (at least in Dutch) either all those things baked at the baker's besides the bread, like pies and pastries, or a full-scale festive dinner. We no longer recognize that the second definition is a pars pro toto: a part of a festive meal that was obviously considered so important as to give its name to the dinner as a whole. Literally, it meant a little bench or wooden table, smaller than but comparable to the fish-stalls at a market. At medieval feasts, such a table was usually located somewhere other than the dining-hall itself, so that the cook might dress it with a variety of dishes while the guests were otherwise occupied and which could then be made available to guests for them to help themselves. In the dining-hall, guests were served in courses by domestics who circulated among the (trestle) tables with the hot dishes, carved the meat and offered it to the diners. The dishes did not stay on the table but we...

The basis for this taxation sofar remains a mystery. A second and new registration in the 2nd quarter of the 16th century fixes this tax equal to the rent of the parcel at that time. While rents changed based on economic conditions, the taxation remained constant untill the beginning of the 19th century. A geographical reconstruction of these parcels, makes it possible to recontruct landleases at that time as a function of location. An example for one judiciary is given.
A GIS and a digital parcel map are prerequisites for this.
Rarely these atlasses, in this case of a hospital in the city of Utrecht, show its complete land-ownership. Most likely every map has a "reason", which has not been researched.
