Capacitive power transfer (CPT) system has been introduced as an attractive alternative to the traditional inductive coupling method. This is due to the CPT benefits of simple topology, fewer components, better EMI performance and robustness to surrounding metallic elements. In this work, a Class-E inverter together with and without LC matching circuit has been utilized because of its ability to perform the dc-to-ac inversion efficiently with significant in switching losses. The validity of the proposed concept has been validated through simulation analysis using MATLAB Professional Software. The performance of the proposed topology are analysed in term of switching losses, input power, output power and dc-dc efficiency. Simulation results demonstrate that the system able to transfer 8.62W of power across 175pF capacitive interface, at an operating frequency of 1MHz, with 93.4% efficiency for 0.25mm coupling gap distance. With this topology, the zero voltage switching is able to be achieved even if the load is different by properly designing the LC matching transformation circuit.

The main issue of utilizing UAV in any application especially in precision agriculture is the lifetime of the battery. This limits the flight time of the UAV which makes the system is unable to be efficiently applied for precision agriculture purpose. Hence, this paper proposes a new approach of powering UAV system by using so called inductive power transfer (IPT) technology. Through this approach, the system can be powered up wirelessly with no physical link in between transmitter and receiver. To be specific, class E inverter circuit has been designed together with impedance matching circuit to ensure higher efficiency is obtained. Finally, a prototype of IPT system for powering up the UAV system was successfully developed, which is able to transmit 23.32 W of power at 1 MHz operating frequency from 12 V input supply. The system achieved up to 95.73% efficiency.

This paper proposed a CPT system by using Class-E inverter. This topology is selected due to its ability to achieve 100% efficiency theoretically. L-match impedance matching circuits are applied at both transmitter and receiver part to allow the load impedance to match with the source impedance to maximize the power transfer. The proposed CPT system is designed and simulated by using Simulink in MATLAB software. Its output performances are analyzed. Besides, the designed CPT system is used to investigate the factors that affect its output performance by varying the load, duty cycle and gap distance between coupling plates. From this work, the proposed CPT system produced up to 97.35% efficiency and output power of 10W.

In this work, the optimum zero voltage switching (ZVS) of Class E-LCCL capacitive power transfer ... more In this work, the optimum zero voltage switching (ZVS) of Class E-LCCL capacitive power transfer (CPT) was determined via frequency tuning method. Through this an efficient system can be guanranteed although there is a change in the capacitive plates distance. This study used a Class-E LCCL inverter, as it can operate at a high alternate current frequency, besides producing low switching losses and minimal power losses. Specifically, this study conducted simulations and experiments to analyse the performance of an LCCL CPT System at 1 MHz operating frequency and 24 V DC supply voltage. Using an air gap distance of 0.1 cm, the designed CPT system prototype successfully achieved an output power of 10W and an efficiency of 95.45%. This study also found that by tuning the resonant frequency of the Class E-LCCL system, the optimum ZVS can be obtained although capacitive plate distance was varied from 1-3 cm via experimental. The results of this study could benefit medical implant and por...

Capacitive power transfer system has been introduced as an attractive alternative to the traditional inductive coupling method due to better electromagnetic interference performance and robustness to surrounding metallic elements. In this work, a Class-E inverter has been utilized to drive the proposed CPT system. However, the Class-E inverter is highly sensitive to its circuit parameters under the scenario of having small capacitance at the coupling plate. As a solution, a 1b matching type has been integrated with Class-E inverter to provide impedance transformation and increase coupling capacitance for a better performance. The validity of the proposed idea has been approved through a 10W experimental work. The performance of the proposed topology is broke down in term of zero voltage switching and DC-DC effectiveness. This paper presents the effect of total harmonic distortion (THD) in power factor correction (PFC... more This paper presents the effect of total harmonic distortion (THD) in power factor correction (PFC) at non-linear load. This study focuses on the relationship between THD and PFC. This is beacuse, the power factor affects THD. This occurs in power system as we have variety of loads, i. e linear load or non-linear load. The variety of loads will influence the sinusoidal waveform, which comes out from harmonic distortion. Thus, based on this study, we can compare the effective method in improving the power factor as it will not disturb the performance of THD. The focus of study is on the single phase load, where the voltage restriction is 240 V. The analysis will only focus on the consumer, which depends on the variety of non-linear load. Besides, the parameters for analysis are based on the percentage of THD and the value of power factor. The instrument for measuring the parameter is based on power factor correction device or technique. On the other hand, the method that was used for...

A number of production floors are utilizing manual methods of data collection for producing repor... more A number of production floors are utilizing manual methods of data collection for producing reports. Manual data compilation leaves room for both inconsistencies and inaccuracies when manual data collection is practiced, there is usually a second step of manually compiling the data. This is most commonly accomplished by entering in the information into spreadsheets. When the data is collected without the help of a production performance score board then the data can be inaccurate. Where there is human intervention on the recording and collection of data, the truthfulness of the collected data is no longer reliable. Another disadvantage of manual data collection is sustainability. The more intensive the task for improvement is attempted, the more likely the priorities will change and the OEE initiative will fade along the way. This paper presents an automated data display system for production performance. Once the data displayed, it is transferred into computers at the remote office. The system will generate an automated report which stays in place and the management only need to act base on the results. This cost effective automatic data collection is the alternative to manual data collection. It significantly improves the accuracy of the valuable reports for the managements.

To ensure efficient running of production line a production performance monitoring system (PMS) i... more To ensure efficient running of production line a production performance monitoring system (PMS) is necessary. Such a system could relay data to monitoring office where decisions can be made to improve production. The data should be true and it should be relayed without human intervention. Such unadulterated data would be interpreted and analyzed to spur actions from the management. A production line is normally operated in a combination of automation or semi automation machineries using programmable logic controller (PLC), sensors and display panel. All this builds the entire networking of the PMS. With the help of this monitoring system the management will be able to monitor both the workers and machine performance. This performance will directly reflect towards the production output. To ensure the performance is always sustainable a real time PMS is required to capture the information's from the production lines and distributes them into understandable production data. The data available should be interpreted accurately in order to identify the various faults at production level and to immediately rectify them to improve efficiency. An accurate data management and monitoring system is equally important in improving production. Faults due to improper monitoring are a down turn to the management whereby it will result in less productivity. Devices designed should be capable of working as individual units or working together with multiple terminal links such as automated machineries, robotic systems and manual process line. This system can be used in any production line to monitor the line performance and helps to improve line efficiency. By implementing such a system will result towards a better line efficiency and this will help the company to generate higher revenue.
