Research reveals that Facebook use can influence subjective wellbeing, either positively or negatively. Few studies have investigated the use of Facebook for online social support groups, but none has yet looked into social support group for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) particularly in Asian context. The aim of this preliminary study was to examine the types of support being exchanged on Facebook and the frequency of the postings. Using the deductive thematic analysis, 320 Facebook postings made by members of an online social support group were analysed during a two weeks period. The results show that sharing of personal experience is the purpose of common postings, accompanied with other themes on social support. Facebook social support group can provide great avenue for these parents and can also be extended to cater for other groups.

Different techniques have been adopted by second language learners in order to learn vocabulary. This paper investigated whether the technique of using computer as a tool assist the learning of vocabulary among second language learners in a suburban secondary school in Malaysia. The method involved pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control group of second language learners. Findings suggested that the experimental group showed great result in learning vocabulary using computer.

Tutor's participant-observation and tutees’ responses to interviews were gathered and interpreted. The findings revealed that the peer-tutoring program was a conducive platform for students to practice the language. The study offers valuable insights into the improvement of tertiary English Second Language (ESL) classroom practice, syllabus design and materials development. The findings suggest that students learnt best when learning centers around them. The authors argue that the environment surrounding the teaching and learning process plays a big role in the acquisition process and increases meaningful language use. This paper concludes that peer-tutoring can be a powerful support program in promoting language use among university students.

promote cultural literacy is through literary works. It is paramount for teacher trainees to obtain
cultural literacy especially when dealing with multicultural classroom. This study explores the
role of literary works in generating cultural literacy which will assist future-to-be teachers to
become culturally sensitive. The objectives of this study are: 1) to examine how culture of the
society is portrayed in the play, and 2) to investigate whether the culture portrayed in the text is
relevant to the current society. The instrument used for data collection is online discussion
forum. The findings suggest that the literary works contribute to the trainees’ cultural
understanding of that particular society. It was also found that the trainees were able to see the
relevance of the culture portrayed in the play to that of the current society. The findings also
revealed the trainees critical evaluation on the article writer’s opinion on the play. The writers
believe that literary works are very rich in language use and aesthetic values which help the
trainees to understand other cultures and become critical readers.

Starting with the use of e-mails to bulletin boards for online community websites, research has found both benefits and drawbacks of online support group. With the rise of social network sites such as Facebook, it provides a new avenue for online support group to be organised and operated. Perhaps it may replace or complement face-to-face support groups and until this date, the use of Facebook for online support groups in Asia is an under-researched area.
This research project aims to study Facebook as a tool for an online support group. It investigates the use of a Facebook support group page called Autisme Malaysia (AM) among parents of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children in Malaysia. Using a qualitative approach, the research will focus on (i) activities conducted by parents of ASD children on AM Facebook page, (ii) the nature and types of social support, (iii) the language use in seeking and providing support, and (iv) the impact of communication in AM FB on these parents. The project will aim to examine the communication that these parents engage in on the AM Facebook page and how they utilise all features of Facebook in order to support each other. This research adopts methods of data mining and interview and will include deductive thematic analysis and content analysis for data analysis method.

This social media has generated 1.23 billion users at the end of 2013 and millions of social interaction takes place every day which leave a wealth of traceable and observable data that spark the interest of researchers. This study reviewed research on Facebook from 2012 to 2013 in a broad range of journals to provide an overview of work done in this emerging field. Articles were coded for research area, use of theory and research methods. Following the five categories of literature search done by Wilson, Gosling and Graham in 2012, the authors found language use and discourse as another category that recently trigger the interest of researchers. This would be an impact due to the communication practise that people engage in when interacting on Facebook. This review assists in evaluating current findings and proposing recommendations for future research on Facebook.
