The growing interest for the re-localisation of food is accompanied by an increased awareness that the food system is a strategic point of view to understand and direct the determinants of development at global as well as regional and local levels, entailing economic, social and environmental benefits.
Alternative Food Networks (AFNs) represent a change in food production and consumption practices.... more Alternative Food Networks (AFNs) represent a change in food production and consumption practices. Their importance has increased among consumers wishing healthier nutrition, farmers' support, and sustainable agriculture. Drawing upon the concept of landscape as expressed in the European Landscape Convention, the paper aims to study if, and to what extent, ethics of organic farmers being part of AFNs could be used as theoretical framework to boost spatial planning for agricultural landscape conservation. The paper analyses the case study of the Soto del Grillo Agro‐ ecological Park in Spain. In‐depth interviews have been used in order to get spontaneous and complete information by farmers. In order to schematise the information, the theoretical categories described by Morris & Kirwan (2011) were considered: i) understanding relationships between production methods and ecological benefits, ii) realising methods, and iii) utilising the information provided by the previous dimensions to communicate with customers. Texts and images of farms websites have also been analysed, in order to see how traditional landscapes questions and ecological values such as biodiversity are associated with food quality. Results are discussed in the light of the park regulation and future development projects, especially focusing on the connection between food, territory and traditional landscape, in order to see whether the driving forces highlighted by farmers are taken into account in the practice. This relationship could open a new season in spatial planning processes, taking into account cultural and social aspects of food production and consumption, encouraging sustainable tourism and reinforcing the relationship between rural and urban spaces.

Ecosystem Services (ESs) are assuming a constantly increasing importance in management practices ... more Ecosystem Services (ESs) are assuming a constantly increasing importance in management practices due to their key role in ensuring a sustainable future to fauna and flora on Earth. In addition, ES degradation and quality loss jeopardize current human activities. For this reason, it is essential to develop methodologies and practices able to efficiently assess environmental and socioeconomic impacts in terms of ES deterioration, especially within protected areas. Norms and regulations have to be able to identify habitat and species categories to be preserved, and to determine the cost of their destruction and decline, according to a holistic vision, which includes social and economic impacts, besides the environmental ones. The paper illustrates the case study of the "Isola dell'Asinara" Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Sardinia, where an experimental methodology was developed with the aim to draw new regulations that integrate conservation measures of Natura 2000 sites included in its territory, provisions determined by the integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) protocol and the Standardized Actions for Effective Management of MPAs (ISEA) project. Subsequently, in order to assess the status of ESs and impacts on ESs located within the MPA territory, an ecosystem-based approach was implemented and applied to the actions defined for the new regulation proposal. Results show that regulations are in this way valuably enriched by environmental aspects of the MPA that would otherwise be overlooked.

With a comparison between two European regions: Sardinia and the Community of Madrid, the paper identifies different styles of behaviour among organic producers, whether or not supervised by a control body, and highlights the differences and similarities regarding their ideas about how alternative agriculture has an impact on the environment as well as society. Eco-economies and ecopreneurship are also considered. The aim is to see if, and to what extent, these ideas have a collective character, going beyond the limits of the single farm to reach a regional scale and, thus, if there is a basis for the development of future food-related planning policies. Through the information provided by semi-structured interviews, farmers have been divided into categories according to their degree of embeddedness, described through the main themes that emerged during the interviews. Every farmer has been included in only one category according to his or her main preference, which does not imply the absence of a positive attitude towards other categories. The study aims to contribute to the understanding of how AFN values and methods can boost the improvement of biodiversity and landscape conservation through collective actions which have the power to boost and develop rural initiative at a regional scale.

This research analyses ancient and contemporary toponyms in Sa Serra region, a vast Quercus woodland in central Sardinia, aiming at: i) recovering the background of the creation process of landscape perception ii) understand its subsequent vanishment due to changes in land use policies. Among the 190 analysed toponyms, a diachronic comparison among maps and old documents, in the light of historical events related to land property modifications in the feudal system, shows the vanishment of a great number of toponyms related to daily rural routines, replaced by owners’ names or simply reduced to mere indication of steady geographical elements. Such evidences reveal the dimming of the local perception in favour of institutional up-down view in the naming process of the land.

Multivariate data analysis of the content of a number of chemical elements, antioxidants, price, ... more Multivariate data analysis of the content of a number of chemical elements, antioxidants, price, method of processing, manufacturing country in the 17 samples of packaged and leaf teas showed that packaged teas contain large amounts of toxic substances (lead and cadmium) than the sheet. This link is found in the study without the factor "price". Therefore, a hidden variable "processing method" associated with or introducing contamination during processing of tea. The dependence between antioxidants and leaf tea. It has no effect for as low as principal components are mutually orthogonal. Factor analysis identified five groups of factors, independent of each other (toxic and essential elements, antioxidants). A correlation Ni-Mn-Pb, Cu-Zn, Co-Na, Fe-Cr, vitamin C-tannins. Some correlations require further study. © Н. Н.

Due to their non-productive services, they are considered fundamental for food sovereignty and rural development, and also as tools to conserve the rural-urban fringe and limit sprawl. MFA and PUA are very often embedded in Alternative Food Networks (AFNs), which represent a change in food production and consumption practices. Drawing upon the definition of landscape according to the European Landscape Convention, this paper aims to show how a municipal rural park in the region of Madrid, established to boost local and seasonal produce, plays a significant role in agricultural landscape enhancement. In-depth interviews and website analysis have been used to highlight how spatial, ecological and social outputs of MFA, conceived and promoted by farmers, interact with the park management framework. Results are discussed in light of the Spanish environ...

trattate e indagato su usi, costumi e riti arcaici ancor oggi esistenti nell’interno
nord dell’isola (Olbia).
