Confirmed: Alexander Wang for Balenciaga
Today is confirmed that Alexander Wang is the new creative director of Balenciaga.
PPR, who own Balenciaga, have made an official statement. 'The Balenciaga fashion house and its staff are proud to welcome Alexander Wang, whose proven talent, modernity and individual and cosmopolitan vision of design will naturally embrace and enrich the unique heritage of this fashion house which will soon be one hundred years old.' told Isabel Guichot, president and CEO of Balenciaga. Alexander Wang has responsibility for designing the brand’s women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, as well as for Balenciaga’s image. Alongside his new duties at Balenciaga, Alexander Wang will continue his activities with his own, independently-owned fashion house. 'I am deeply honoured to embark on this new role for a brand and house that I have such great admiration and respect for', said the 28-year-old designer.
A new era has started!
What do you think of Alex Wang's appointment?

Breaking News: Christopher Kane to Balenciaga?
Woke up this morning with some exciting news: Christopher Kane is the new designer of Balenciaga! Of course I regret Nicolas Ghesquière leaving. He really did something extraordinary at the house. But I'm sure Christopher will be a good successor as he did great things with his own label and with Versus.

Christopher Kane is undoubtly the best man for this job
(as it is not an easy task to beat Nicolas Ghesquière, let's be honest)
UPDATE: Several French sources, including Le Nouvel Observateur, reported that Christopher Kane was appointed creative director. This rumor was denied by his spokesman. 'The rumors are based on nothing.'
This afternoon it was announced that Kane stops after three years at Versus. Donatella Versace will now design the capsule collections for Versace's sister-brand.
Balenciaga's CEO Isabel Guichot has confirmed that she has a list of potential candidates. There is speculation about big names like Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra and Bouchra Jarrar.
The plans of Nicolas Ghesquière are still unknown.

The Middle East is always a great inspiration for leading fashion designers. Not only because of the rich culture, but also bacause of the growing Asian market. Many fashion houses expand to the far east and Asian woman buy haute couture more than ever. So it's nice to see that development on the catwalk.
That means there were a lot of flowers, origami folding, dragons, silks and kimonos.
The only collection that wasn't quite my thing, sorry Miuccia, was Prada. Imagine towering platforms with socks AND bows AND gold (why?)!

Roots
Hello y'all,
Your captain speaking live from Amsterdam. Amsterdam? Yes, I left my town in the south of Holland for something more exciting: a study at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute a.k.a. AMFI.
Here are some pictures of the fashion show by the project Individuals by AMFI at Amsterdam International Fashion Week this july (speaking of fashion weeks: tomorrow NYFW!!!).
The inspiration behind Roots:
Street becomes earth. The dark pillars of our civilization have been brought down by a marching movement of brave warriors. A sense of catharsis enables us to rely on our primal strengths once again. Scarred but empowered, we proudly stride through raw gravel. It is now time for us to reconstruct the deconstructed into a new world. Digging for debris in the sandy soil of what once was structured asphalt, we build from broken pieces of a bygone era. Fusing whatever we can find into remodeled materials, we create the necessities that ensure our survival. Darkness brings forth light. We inevitably move onwards.
Roots is an etnic collection full of prints, leather and headpieces. The color palette of white, camel, burgundy, black and gray made the collection very earthy. The wink to american sports on the other hand gave it a modern touch.
I saw some pieces of the collection in real life and I'm amazed by the good quality and nice finishing. I can't wait to rock my years at AMFI like a tiger dragon slayer from the underworld and be part of a huge project like this!
