One way to communicate immediately is through a smartphone. There are many disaster management mobile applications that are designed primarily for communication. However, most of these applications require cellular and internet connectivity that are rarely available in times of disaster to function. Moreover, these applications are also limited and inflexible considering the different cases that might occur during disaster. To address these problems, we built a mobile application framework based on MIT’s App Inventor that democratizes the development of applications which utilizes Wi-Fi Direct in the context of disaster management. Applications created using this framework will be useful in the absence of cellular and internet connectivity.
