amino)-2-phenylacetamido)-3-methyl-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid, prepared from
phthalaldehyde and cephalexin antibiotic. The synthesized Schiff base ligand (L) and the secondary ligand
alizarin (Az) are used to prepare the new complexes [M(Az)2(L)] and [Cr(Az)2(L)]Cl, where M= Mn(II), Co(II),
Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II). The mode of bonding of the Schiff base has been characterized by UV-Visible, FTIR,
Mass, 1H-, and 13C-NMR spectroscopic techniques, and micro elemental analysis (CHNS). The complexes
were characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR, molar conductance, magnetic moment, and thermal analysis (TG/DTG).
The molar conductance data revealed that the complexes are non-electrolytes except for [Cr(L)(Az)2]Cl, which
is an electrolytic type 1:1. The Schiff base and its complexes have been tested for their biological activity
against two strains of bacteria and one fungus. When screened against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens,
the Az and L ligands and their complexes showed potential antimicrobial activity.

All prepared compounds were characterized by different spectroscopic techniques and Density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. The complexes were proposed to have an octahedral structure based on the investigated results. The optimized shape, numbering system, and dipole moment vector of Ligand and La, Ce, and UO2 (1:1) chelates were investigated. The Schiff base ligand and complexes exhibit moderate action against all of the bacteria tested, with P. aeruginosa, Klebsiella sp., and E. faecalis respectively being the order of inhibition.

The synthesized complexes were of the type [M(L 1)(L 2)], where the metal, M, is Ni(II), Cu(II), Cr(III), and Zn(II), L 1 corresponds to the trimethoprim ((Z)-4-((4-amino-5-(3,4,5trimethoxybenzyl)pyrimidine-2-yl)imino)pentane-2-one) as the first ligand and L 2 represent the oxalate anion () as a second ligand. Characterization of the prepared compounds was performed by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic measurements, 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, FT-IR, and Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectral studies. The recorded infrared data is reinforced with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Also, the recorded and calculated IR spectra of the complexes suggested that the coordination of Schiff base is a bidentate ligand with Cu and Ni complexes and a tridentate ligand with Co, Cr, and Zn complexes. The electronic structures of the complexes were investigated by DFT calculations, showing several degrees of HOMO-LUMO energy gaps between complexes. The complexes were studied for their DNA interaction activities. The synthesized ligand and its metal complexes were evaluated for antimicrobial properties against bacterial strains of Bacillus subtilis (G+), Enterobacter cloacae (G-), and Staphylococcus aureus (G+). These complexes considered in this study showed good antimicrobial activity.

Reviewing these studies, we found that uracil can be coordinated through the electron pair on the N 1 , N 3 , O 2 , or O 4 atoms. If the uracil was a mono-dentate ligand, it will be coordinated by one of the following atoms: N 1 , N 3 or O 2. But if the uracil was bi-dentate ligand, it will be coordinated by atoms N 1 and O 2 , N 3 and O 2 or N 3 and O 4. However, when uracil forms complexes in the form of polymers, coordination occurs through the following atoms:
Synthesis and Characterization with Antimicrobial Studies of mixed Curcumin Schiff Base–L-dopa with Divalent Cations Complexes, 2023
In the present article, mixed ligand metal (II) complexes have been synthesized with Schiff base ... more In the present article, mixed ligand metal (II) complexes have been synthesized with Schiff base (1E, 5Z, 6E)-1,7 bis (4-hydroxy-3methoxyphenyl)-5-(3-hydroxyphenyl) imino) hepta-1,6-dien-3-one derived from Curcumin and 3-aminophenol as primary ligand and L-dopa as a secondary ligand. The Schiff base act as bidentate and arrange to the metals through the azomethine (C=N) nitrogen and (C=O) oxygen atom. The mode of bonding of the Schiff base has been affirmed on the infrared by the UV-Visible, 1 H, and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques. The magnetic susceptibility and the UV-Vis data of the complexes propose octahedral geometry around the central metal ion. The information appears that the complexes have the structure of [L-M-(L-dopa)] system, where M=Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II). The low conductance of all complexes supports the non-electrolytic nature of the complexes. The biological activity of the complexes was screened against bacteria, (Klebsiella and P. Staphylococuse and gives a good results anti-fungus C. Albicans). All complexes possess the biological activity which has the same activities, and good antimicrobial activity that displays higher activities against fungus compared with bacteria.

In reviewing these studies, the authors found that paracetamol can be coordinated through the pair of electrons on the hydroxyl O-atom, carbonyl O-atom, and N-atom of the amide group. If the paracetamol was a monodentate ligand, it will be coordinated by one of the following atoms O-hydroxyl, O-carbonyl or N-amide. But if the paracetamol was bidentate, it is coordinated by atoms (O-carbonyl and N-amide), (O-hydroxyl and N-amide) or (O-carbonyl and O-hydroxyl). The authors also found that free paracetamol and its complexes have antimicrobial activity.
Metal Complexes of Cephalexin and Their Biological Activities: A Review, 2023
Cephalexin and its derivatives are commonly utilized in the pharmaceutical and medicinal industry... more Cephalexin and its derivatives are commonly utilized in the pharmaceutical and medicinal industry due to their biological and pharmaceutical activities, including anti-microbial, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, and herbicidal activities as well as possessing high palatability and being useful for skin and joint infections. Interestingly, some organic drugs, including cephalexin, which exhibit toxicological and pharmacological properties, can be administered in forms of metal complexes. Many researchers have synthesized organic ligands derived from cephalexin in forms of Schiff bases and azo compounds which exhibited higher biological and medicinal properties when compared to cephalexin alone. One of the important features that make Schiff base more desirable when used for coordination complexation is possessing the ability to coordinate with the metal ions via forming chelating rings, which make them very effective when it comes to clinical and analytical applications. In this review, we present the latest and most promising studies that are related to synthesizing organic derivatives of cephalexin and their drug-metal complexes as well as the biological activity that is associated with these complexes.

The results suggest that the Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) have distorted tetrahedral geometry. The following general formulae were proposed for the prepared complexes:[M (pro) (Thr)] , where pro-= C 5 H 8 NO 2-Thr= C 4 H 9 NO 2-, M +2 = Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II). Molar conductance of a 10 −3 M solution in (DMF) indicates that all the complexes are non-electrolytes.
