Accordingly, this article unveils the effects of RE on Balkan post-socialist countries (BPSCs). Stakeholder theory, systematic literature review, K-means cluster analysis, a sample of 25 papers, expert evaluations and synthesis/analysis underpin it. Main results: 1. Data was found for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, and Slovenia. 2. The negative RE effects outnumbered the positive (30 vs. 22). They were also more frequently cited (65 vs. 53). 3. The most cited negative effects were unfair evaluation in some disciplines and the rise of authors per publication, while enhanced collaboration was the most cited positive. 4. Specifics of RE effects on BPSCs were elucidated. 5. BPSCs 3-cluster maps were created for the positive, negative, and all RE effects. The maps of negative and all RE effects were the same, covering BIH and Romania in cluster 1 (titled 'least positive, mid negative'), Bulgaria and Serbia in cluster 2 ('mid positive, least negative'), Slovenia and Croatia in cluster 3 ('most positive, most negative'). The positive map differed only for Serbia, assigned to the 'least positive' cluster. The primary role of this article is as a landmark for BPSCs research evaluation effectiveness.
Background: Academic writing for publication (AWforP) has recently come to the fore because of th... more Background: Academic writing for publication (AWforP) has recently come to the fore because of the critical importance of scholarly publication to academia and the internationalization of science. A review of the scientific literature on AWforP found that it is underdeveloped and lacks comprehensive frameworks and models for AWforP challenges, AWforP strategies, or both. Purpose: To contribute to bridging these gaps, this article aims to summarize and map the AWforP challenges and AWforP strategies identified in the scholarly empirical literature. Method: A systematic Scopus/WoS literature review was used for data collection, identifying 15 relevant sources (n, sample size). The review was based on the PRISMA recommendations. Data were analyzed and summarized by deduction and meta-analysis based on chi-square heterogeneity test and meta-regression, then mapped by induction and K-means clustering. Results: First, 31 challenges to AWforP and 36 strategies for AWforP were detected. Second, an original classification of AWforP challenges was introduced. The taxonomy of academic writing strategies was expanded with AWforP strategies. Third, AWforP challenges/strategies were ranked based on their frequency of mention in the sample. Semantic difficulties were the most prevalent challenge, and attending academic writing courses was the most advised strategy. Fourth, through meta-analysis, the sample was found to be moderately statistically heterogeneous (I2=60.97%), and the summary effect size was positive and statistically significant. Fifth, the sampled sources were mapped into five clusters based on the country of researchers studied (SSE=10.511). Conclusion: This article conceptualizes empirical research on AWforP challenges and AWforP strategies by identifying, comprehensively systematizing, summarizing, and mapping them. Implementing the proposed taxonomy of AWforP challenges/strategies under the identified cluster specifics in the academic writing teaching and strategic research planning and control practices would improve researchers’ publication activity and research management effectiveness at the university and national levels.

This article provides a conceptual framework that categorizes the dark side of RE and provides strategies to diminish it. At its core, this framework includes a generic model summarizing RE dark effects and anti-dark effects remedies and elucidating their relations. Four research questions were raised regarding the research interest in the dark side of RE, the nature of the dark effects of RE and remedies for them, their literature prominence, and whether it is possible to create a well-founded model for mitigating the dark side of RE. Theoretically, this framework is based on concepts of the philosophy of science. Methodologically, a structured literature review, methods of expert judgment, analysis and synthesis, and a sampler of 35 articles underpin it. Stakeholder and logical approaches were applied for classification. The suggested framework is the first in-depth attempt to elucidate the dark side of RE and how to mitigate it. In practical terms, the framework can be incorporated into university/government RE systems to "enlighten"/control their dark side, thereby improving the academic governance toolkit. It can also be used to develop subject-area/country-specific models for the dark side of RE.

This article draws on stakeholder and self-determination theories. It uses tools of online survey (among 99 managers at 5 state Bulgarian universities), Kendall's rank correlation coefficient, expert evaluations, induction/deduction and comparison. Three typical motivational profiles are obtained in this study: 1 for the department head stakeholder, titled "department-dedicated manager profile", and 2 for the top management stakeholder, titled "job-satisfaction seeking manager profile" and "university-dedicated manager profile".

The arrival of advanced Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (GPT) in late 2022 resulted in a wide spread of the technology, capable of generating texts of any genres, complexity, and styles. Written communication embraces all spheres of human educational and professional activities that caused a lightning speed at which the technology was introduced into education, science, journalism, mass communication, medicine, etc. The academic community is vigorously discussing the plausible consequences and potential of ChatGPT for various domains, especially education, medicine, and science at large. The review seeks to analyze international publications on ChatGPT’s impact and potential in higher education and to identify the key lines of research. Materials and Methods. Based on the PRISMA methodology, the authors selected 190 articles and reviews indexed in the Scopus database with inclusion criteria in focus (period, languages, field, themes). The publications were analyzed and distributed among seven thematic clusters. Results. As a result of the analysis of the publications, the following clusters were formed: higher education (71 documents), education in various areas (37 documents), writing and language learning (24 documents), assessment in educational systems (22 documents), medical education (18 documents), ethical issues and academic integrity (15 documents), and perception of ChatGPT on part of students and educators (12 documents). Discussion and Conclusion. The analysis of the ChatGPT potential and negative aspects in higher education allows for singling out the subject areas where the most essential transformations will take place: assessment of knowledge and skills, information credibility, the scope of competence and skills formed in higher education, ethical issues of research, various aspects of professional training. The authors’ conclusions correlate with the reviews on ChatGPT published earlier. Addressing the new challenges requires the system of education to be transformed, new forms of learning and assessment to be introduced. The review results may be applied in further research on the topic. Given a skyrocketing rise in the number of publications on ChatGPT, researchers ought to keep track of new research in the emerging subject area. Аннотация Введение. Появление в 2022 г. высокоэффективного генеративного предобученного трансформера ChatGPT привело к распространению этой технологии, способной генерировать тексты любых жанров, сложности и стиля. Письменная коммуникация охватывает все сферы человеческой учебной и профессиональной деятельности, что и стало главной причиной практически мгновенного внедрения технологии в образование, науку, журналистику, массовую коммуникацию, медицину и другие области. Академическое сообщество активно обсуждает вероятные последствия и потенциал ChatGPT прежде всего для образования, медицины и науки в целом. Цель исследования-анализ международных публикаций о влиянии и потенциале ChatGPT в высшем образовании, выявление основных направлений исследований. Материалы и методы. На основе методики PRISMA в базе Scopus с использованием критериев включения (период, языки, области знания, тематика) отобраны 190 публикаций (статей и обзоров). Публикации были проанализированы и распределены по семи тематическим кластерам. Результаты исследования. В результате анализа отобранных публикаций выделены и проанализированы тематические кластеры в контексте применения технологий ChatGPT: высшее образование (71 публикация), образование по различным группам специальностей (37 публикаций), письменные задания и обучение языку (24 документа), оценивание в образовательных системах (22 публикации), медицинское образование (18 публикаций), этика и академическая честность (15 публикаций) и восприятие технологии (12 документов). Обсуждение и заключение. Анализ потенциала и негативных аспектов ChatGPT в высшем образовании позволяет выделить области, где будут происходить самые серьезные трансформации: оценивание знаний и навыков, достоверность информации, компетенции и навыки, формируемые в высшей школе, этические аспекты научно-исследовательской деятельности, отдельные аспекты профессиональной подготовки. Выводы авторов коррелируют с опубликованными ранее обзорами по этой теме. Преодоление новых вызовов требует перестройки системы образования, введение новых форм обучения и оценивания. Результаты обзора могут быть использованы в дальнейших исследованиях по применению ChatGPT в образовании. Принимая во внимание большое количество публикаций по теме, следует регулярно анализировать развитие исследований в быстро развивающемся предметном поле.

This paper proposes a fuzzy logic model for evaluating the level of stakeholder motivation for hi... more This paper proposes a fuzzy logic model for evaluating the level of stakeholder motivation for high-quality publications. Conceptually, the model is based on stakeholder theory and Vroom's expectancy theory of motivation. Instrumentally, tools of fuzzy sets, fuzzy logic, and expert evaluations are at its core. The model is suitable for any university. Further, it reflects university specificity, using specific motivational factors in one of the evaluation procedures. The model easily evaluates the level of motivation by processing vague, subjective perceptions. It was applied at a Bulgarian university through a comprehensive survey that included 106 participants and performed well. The model contributes to the advancement of management science by theoretically enriching research management and organizational behaviour and complementing their tools. Expected practical implications are improved university management and higher scientific results based on well-grounded decisions about research, people, and performance.

The research toolkit covers the stakeholder approach, PRISMA recommendations for systematic literature review, methods of deduction, comparison, and qualitative content analysis. We concluded that Russia is quite specific on this topic and found three primary Russian specifics: a unique stakeholder - the unified state bureaucracy; two unique motivational drivers of the researcher stakeholder - professional development and favourable academic environment; three unique motivational drivers of the university management stakeholder - political pressure reduction, power, and effective management.

Materials and Methods. Articles found up to 2022 in the Scopus or Web of Science databases were included in this review. В условиях усиления роли университетской науки в России особое значение уделяется повышению качества научных публикаций российских преподавателей университетов в ведущих международных и российских журналах. Для понимания направления научного дискурса по указанной проблематике авторами были изучены научные публикации, рассматривающие инструменты влияния на российских преподавателей университетов и исследователей для увеличения публикаций в журналах, индексируемых Scopus или Web of Science. Материалы и методы. В обзор вошли статьи, найденные до 2022 г. в базах данных Scopus или Web of Science. Применялись систематический подход, основанный на рекомендациях PRISMA, и метод качественного контент-анализа. Выборка обзора охватывала 14 статей. Результаты исследования. Результаты показали, что тема исследования находится на ранней стадии разработки, хотя интерес к ней возрастает. Выявлены три стейкхолдера по теме-исследователь, государственные органы и руководство университета. Наиболее упоминаемыми инструментами влияния были: для стейкхолдера «исследователь»-пристрастие к научной работе и участие в научных проектах, для стейкхолдера «государственные органы»-гранты и давление государственной политики, для стейкхолдера «руководство университета»-внедрение рейтинговой системы/наукометрии, инициирование поощрительных выплат, поддержка сотрудничества и стимулирование соревнований. В ходе анализа научной литературы были определены основные недостатки системы влияния на российских исследователей: бюрократическое управление, скудное финансирование, принуждение к публикации, академический капитализм и ограничение академических свобод. Большинство авторов обзорной выборки исследования отметили, что ряд инструментов влияния на российских исследователей необходимо совершенствовать или заменить. Обсуждение и заключение. The model is based on a non-traditional combination of classical and contemporary achievements of management and mathematical theories of fuzzy logic and fuzzy sets. In methodological terms, the article also offers a set of tools for measuring and evaluating both team performance and the effectiveness of the team control system in the organization. Fuzzy tools and techniques for decision-making, studying of hidden effects and joint influences, and quantification of evaluations are employed in this set of tools. The suggested fuzzy model contributes to overcoming theoretical deficits on the issues of team control, and the methodology of team control fills a gap in the toolkit of team management. According to modern management theory, the performance evaluation based entirely on objective ind... more According to modern management theory, the performance evaluation based entirely on objective indicators within an organization is not considered to be an effective tool. The research objective of this paper is to suggest a contemporary model for evaluation in the budgetary control process of the organization. The model is based on a modern evaluation approach and a complex toolkit of management science and mathematical theories of fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic. In this model, subjective evaluations of the responsibility centres' achievement and performance in budgetary control are generated by fuzzy techniques based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative indicators. The model also allows for an immediate transformation of quantitative into qualitative evaluations and vice versa both in fuzzy and crisp types. The proposed model is an appropriate tool for the subjective performance evaluation of objective results from the organization's budgetary control process under uncertainty. This model was tested in a Bulgarian enterprise for unique wood furniture manufacturing in July 2018 and was applied to five cost centres, with the results demonstrating its applicability. According to our study, the model provides a modern solution to a management problem that is unresolved in the scientific literature and is important to the budgetary management practice of organizations. We believe that the further improvement and implementation of the model will contribute to more effective management and thus to the enhancing competitiveness of the organization.

It is based on a literature review from 1985 to September 2019, using a structured approach, content analysis and descriptive statistics. The results show that the topic has not received enough attention yet. Of the 14 motivational drivers found, the most cited are collaboration, research funding, financial assets, and contributions to society. Also, this paper outlines the gaps in the literature and suggests ideas for future research.

Measuring enterprise performance plays an important role in maximizing business efficiency. A mod... more Measuring enterprise performance plays an important role in maximizing business efficiency. A modern business performance measurement tool is the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) method. This method helps assess not only the financial situation of the enterprise, but also indicators, and evaluates non-financial indicators, which is important for achieving the maximum competitiveness of the enterprise. This paper points out the importance of non-financial indicators in small and medium-sized enterprises in Slovakia, using the BSC method as a strategic management tool. Three hypotheses were established and then verified using the method of proportionality of the given phenomenon in the population and the chi-square test of independence. Apartial objective of the study was to find out the existence of a statistically significant link between the use of the BSC method and the importance of non-financial indicators in small and mediumsized enterprises in Slovakia, as the BSC method attaches the same importance to both financial and non-financial indicators. As a result of the analysis of the publications, the following clusters were formed: higher education (71 documents), education in various areas (37 documents), writing and language learning (24 documents), assessment in educational systems (22 documents), medical education (18 documents), ethical issues and academic integrity (15 documents), and perception of ChatGPT on part of students and educators (12 documents). Discussion and Conclusion. The analysis of the ChatGPT potential and negative aspects in higher education allows for singling out the subject areas where the most essential transformations will take place: assessment of knowledge and skills, information credibility, the scope of competence and skills formed in higher education, ethical issues of research, various aspects of professional training. The authors’ conclusions correlate with the reviews on ChatGPT published earlier. Addressing the new challenges requires the system of education to be transformed, new forms of learning and assessment to be introduced. The review results may be applied in further research on the topic. Given a skyrocketing rise in the number of publications on ChatGPT, researchers ought to keep track of new research in the emerging subject area. Аннотация Введение. Цель исследования-анализ международных публикаций о влиянии и потенциале ChatGPT в высшем образовании, выявление основных направлений исследований. Материалы и методы. На основе методики PRISMA в базе Scopus с использованием критериев включения (период, языки, области знания, тематика) отобраны 190 публикаций (статей и обзоров). Публикации были проанализированы и распределены по семи тематическим кластерам. Результаты исследования. В результате анализа отобранных публикаций выделены и проанализированы тематические кластеры в контексте применения технологий ChatGPT: высшее образование (71 публикация), образование по различным группам специальностей (37 публикаций), письменные задания и обучение языку (24 документа), оценивание в образовательных системах (22 публикации), медицинское образование (18 публикаций), этика и академическая честность (15 публикаций) и восприятие технологии (12 документов). Обсуждение и заключение. Анализ потенциала и негативных аспектов ChatGPT в высшем образовании позволяет выделить области, где будут происходить самые серьезные трансформации: оценивание знаний и навыков, достоверность информации, компетенции и навыки, формируемые в высшей школе, этические аспекты научно-исследовательской деятельности, отдельные аспекты профессиональной подготовки. Выводы авторов коррелируют с опубликованными ранее обзорами по этой теме. Преодоление новых вызовов требует перестройки системы образования, введение новых форм обучения и оценивания. Результаты обзора могут быть использованы в дальнейших исследованиях по применению ChatGPT в образовании. Принимая во внимание большое количество публикаций по теме, следует регулярно анализировать развитие исследований в быстро развивающемся предметном поле.

Conceptually, the model is based on stakeholder theory and Vroom's expectancy theory of motivation. Instrumentally, tools of fuzzy sets, fuzzy logic, and expert evaluations are at its core. The model is suitable for any university. Further, it reflects university specificity, using specific motivational factors in one of the evaluation procedures. The model easily evaluates the level of motivation by processing vague, subjective perceptions. It was applied at a Bulgarian university through a comprehensive survey that included 106 participants and performed well. The model contributes to the advancement of management science by theoretically enriching research management and organizational behaviour and complementing their tools. Expected practical implications are improved university management and higher scientific results based on well-grounded decisions about research, people, and performance.

The research toolkit covers the stakeholder approach, PRISMA recommendations for systematic literature review, methods of deduction, comparison, and qualitative content analysis. We concluded that Russia is quite specific on this topic and found three primary Russian specifics: a unique stakeholder - the unified state bureaucracy; two unique motivational drivers of the researcher stakeholder - professional development and favourable academic environment; three unique motivational drivers of the university management stakeholder - political pressure reduction, power, and effective management.

В условиях усиления роли университетской науки в России особое значение уделяется повышению качества научных публикаций российских преподавателей университетов в ведущих международных и российских журналах. Для понимания направления научного дискурса по указанной проблематике авторами были изучены научные публикации, рассматривающие инструменты влияния на российских преподавателей университетов и исследователей для увеличения публикаций в журналах, индексируемых Scopus или Web of Science. Материалы и методы. В обзор вошли статьи, найденные до 2022 г. в базах данных Scopus или Web of Science. Применялись систематический подход, основанный на рекомендациях PRISMA, и метод качественного контент-анализа. Выборка обзора охватывала 14 статей. Результаты исследования. Результаты показали, что тема исследования находится на ранней стадии разработки, хотя интерес к ней возрастает. Выявлены три стейкхолдера по теме-исследователь, государственные органы и руководство университета. Наиболее упоминаемыми инструментами влияния были: для стейкхолдера «исследователь»-пристрастие к научной работе и участие в научных проектах, для стейкхолдера «государственные органы»-гранты и давление государственной политики, для стейкхолдера «руководство университета»-внедрение рейтинговой системы/наукометрии, инициирование поощрительных выплат, поддержка сотрудничества и стимулирование соревнований. В ходе анализа научной литературы были определены основные недостатки системы влияния на российских исследователей: бюрократическое управление, скудное финансирование, принуждение к публикации, академический капитализм и ограничение академических свобод. The model is based on a non-traditional combination of classical and contemporary achievements of management and mathematical theories of fuzzy logic and fuzzy sets. In methodological terms, the article also offers a set of tools for measuring and evaluating both team performance and the effectiveness of the team control system in the organization. Fuzzy tools and techniques for decision-making, studying of hidden effects and joint influences, and quantification of evaluations are employed in this set of tools. The suggested fuzzy model contributes to overcoming theoretical deficits on the issues of team control, and the methodology of team control fills a gap in the toolkit of team management. According to modern management theory, the performance evaluation based entirely on objective ind... more According to modern management theory, the performance evaluation based entirely on objective indicators within an organization is not considered to be an effective tool. The research objective of this paper is to suggest a contemporary model for evaluation in the budgetary control process of the organization. The model is based on a modern evaluation approach and a complex toolkit of management science and mathematical theories of fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic. In this model, subjective evaluations of the responsibility centres' achievement and performance in budgetary control are generated by fuzzy techniques based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative indicators. The model also allows for an immediate transformation of quantitative into qualitative evaluations and vice versa both in fuzzy and crisp types. The proposed model is an appropriate tool for the subjective performance evaluation of objective results from the organization's budgetary control process under uncertainty. This model was tested in a Bulgarian enterprise for unique wood furniture manufacturing in July 2018 and was applied to five cost centres, with the results demonstrating its applicability. According to our study, the model provides a modern solution to a management problem that is unresolved in the scientific literature and is important to the budgetary management practice of organizations. We believe that the further improvement and implementation of the model will contribute to more effective management and thus to the enhancing competitiveness of the organization.

It is based on a literature review from 1985 to September 2019, using a structured approach, content analysis and descriptive statistics. The results show that the topic has not received enough attention yet. Of the 14 motivational drivers found, the most cited are collaboration, research funding, financial assets, and contributions to society. Also, this paper outlines the gaps in the literature and suggests ideas for future research.

Measuring enterprise performance plays an important role in maximizing business efficiency. A mod... more Measuring enterprise performance plays an important role in maximizing business efficiency. A modern business performance measurement tool is the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) method. This method helps assess not only the financial situation of the enterprise, but also indicators, and evaluates non-financial indicators, which is important for achieving the maximum competitiveness of the enterprise. This paper points out the importance of non-financial indicators in small and medium-sized enterprises in Slovakia, using the BSC method as a strategic management tool. Three hypotheses were established and then verified using the method of proportionality of the given phenomenon in the population and the chi-square test of independence. Apartial objective of the study was to find out the existence of a statistically significant link between the use of the BSC method and the importance of non-financial indicators in small and mediumsized enterprises in Slovakia, as the BSC method attaches the same importance to both financial and non-financial indicators. Purpose: To contribute to bridging these gaps, this article aims to summarize and map the AWforP challenges and AWforP strategies identified in the scholarly empirical literature.
Method: A systematic Scopus/WoS literature review was used for data collection, identifying 15 relevant sources (n, sample size). The review was based on the PRISMA recommendations. Data were analyzed and summarized by deduction and meta-analysis based on chi-square heterogeneity test and meta-regression, then mapped by induction and K-means clustering.
Results: First, 31 challenges to AWforP and 36 strategies for AWforP were detected. Second, an original classification of AWforP challenges was introduced. The taxonomy of academic writing strategies was expanded with AWforP strategies. Third, AWforP challenges/strategies were ranked based on their frequency of mention in the sample. Semantic difficulties were the most prevalent challenge, and attending academic writing courses was the most advised strategy. Fourth, through meta-analysis, the sample was found to be moderately statistically heterogeneous (I2=60.97%), and the summary effect size was positive and statistically significant. Fifth, the sampled sources were mapped into five clusters based on the country of researchers studied (SSE=10.511).
Conclusion: This article conceptualizes empirical research on AWforP challenges and AWforP strategies by identifying, comprehensively systematizing, summarizing, and mapping them. Implementing the proposed taxonomy of AWforP challenges/strategies under the identified cluster specifics in the academic writing teaching and strategic research planning and control practices would improve researchers’ publication activity and research management effectiveness at the university and national levels.

Written communication embraces all spheres of human educational and professional activities that caused a lightning speed at which the technology was introduced into education, science, journalism, mass communication, medicine, etc. The academic community is vigorously discussing the plausible consequences and potential of ChatGPT for various domains, especially education, medicine, and science at large. The review seeks to analyze international publications on ChatGPT’s impact and potential in higher education and to identify the key lines of research.
Materials and Methods. Based on the PRISMA methodology, the authors selected 190 articles and reviews indexed in the Scopus database with inclusion criteria in focus (period, languages, field, themes). The publications were analyzed and distributed among seven thematic clusters.
