This paper investigates how the risk of dissolution relates to efforts to solve disagreements. We study whether marital locus of control (a noncognitive trait that captures individual's perception of control over problems within the couple) is associated with the prevalence of relationship instability in the past. We implement a list experiment using the count‐item technique to a sample of current real‐life couples to elicit truthful answers about couple break‐up intentions in the past at the individual level. We find that around 44% of our sample has considered to end their relationship with their current partner at least once in the past. The intention to break‐up is more prevalent among those who score low in marital locus of control, males, low‐income earners, individuals with university studies, and couples without children.

They are normalizations derived from the homogeneity property of the cost function. Therefore, these r estrictions do not alter the theoretical admissibility of the model and preserve its rich economic content .

The political economy analysis of the consequences of the reform has clearly revealed the positions of farmers and agro-food industries, consumers, and farming unions concerning the issue of a total or partial implementation of decoupling. The policy analysis permits both an understanding of the possible social conflicts arising from the implementation of the reform and a unique ranking of the policy alternatives.

The model contributes to the literature by explicitly modeling intrahousehold inequality and oering a powerful tool to analyze the impact of specic factors or policies on the share of resources of each household member. We apply the model to Albania, a country where gender and inter-generation inequalities are relevant social issues stemming from traditional patriarchal family values and massive international migration of male adults. The results show that the female share of resources is substantially lower respect to a fair distribution. The share of resources freed by the male migrant shifts to the left behind children but not to women, especially when migration increases the inuence of women in the decision making process. This eect is increasing with the proportion of daughters.

According to Social sychology, identity is also the result of a process in.uenced by self-regulation mechanisms. We model endogenous identity-dependent preferences as the dynamic result of two mechanisms: environmental pressure and the persistent effect of past socialization in the adaptation to new environments We apply this model to environments where the agent must tradeoff con.icting utility functions, such as material and non-material payoffs, or self-interest and other-regarding preferences. The model shows that heterogeneity in individual preferences, besides being the result of socialization, cultural transmission and environmental incentives, critically hinges on the feed-back of behaviour on preferences.

Introducing equity concerns in the implementation of economic policies is a fundamental problem faced by both economists and policy makers. This paper uses a social welfare function à la Jorgenson and Slesnick to estimate society's aversion towards inequality by implementing a voting scheme for compiling individuals' equity preferences into a social choice by majority rule. The results show that preferences are highly polarized toward a low and a high concern for equity aversion and that this concern is significantly related with several sociodemographic characteristics. Among them, income plays an important role with richer people tending to favor less equity. Results also show that preferences towards equity have changed across the years.

The local economy is specialized in tourist services and strongly linked to the tourist presence and their level of expenditure. We wish to investigate the effects of the participative management strategy, which takes into account users preferences and the non-participative strategy, using the SAM multiplier analysis. The local SAM has been constructed considering three sectors: agriculture, tourism and a third aggregate sector including all the other activities. The resident population has been divided into two categories: residents employed in the tourist sector and the remaining resident population. The SAM analysis shows that the accounting representation of the local economy is meaningful and that the participative program, if chosen by the central regional management, would be the most desirable program also at the local level.

Restrictions on the demographic parameters that allow the identification of the model and make it estimable are derived. An empirical application shows that the Barten-Gorman model behaves well and preferred to the nested Translating and Scaling specifications.

In order to determine how much money is needed to make each household member as well off as they ... more In order to determine how much money is needed to make each household member as well off as they were before a change in living conditions, equivalence scales should be defined on the basis of individual rather than household welfare. This requires the knowledge of individual utilities that are derivable from the identification of the rule governing the intra-household allocation of resources within a collective approach. We pursue this objective using information about male, female and children clothing expenditure present in the 1999 Italian Household budget survey within the estimation of a complete demand system. The sharing rule between adults and children is estimated using a structural rather than a reduced form approach. Maximum simulated likelihood is used to estimate a collective model of individual demand equations with zero expenditures for the exclusive good clothing. The recovery of individual utilities for adults and children permits the estimation of the cost of children taking the intra-household distribution of resources into account. We show that the cost of Italian children is significantly affected by the parents' aversion to intra-household inequality.

The contributors to the volume seek the best strategies for improving the environmental sustainability and quality of a public resource by showing how to develop quantitative information about the natural area and how it interacts with the economy. Such an analysis can be used to define policies that encourage interactions among institutions, local economic agents and park users. At the same time, it provides a measure to account for the implications of those policies on the local economy.

The lack of information about quantities purchased precludes the possibility of deriving household specific unit values. The aggregate price indexes derived from sources exogenous to the household survey are often not sufficient to identify all parameters and to provide plausible estimates. We use a theoretical result developed by Lewbel (1989) to construct "pseudo" unit values by 1) reproducing the variability of crosssectional price variation using the variability of the budget shares, and 2) adding the variability to the aggregate price indexes published by the national statistical institute. The study estimates a complete quadratic demand system using a time series of cross-sections of Italian household budgets including, in turn, aggregate price indexes and "pseudo" unit values. The results show that the matrix of compensated price elasticities is negative semidefinite only if "pseudo" unit values are used. In order to have a counterfactual experiment, we then consider a household survey with actual unit values and compare them with "pseudo" unit values. The experiment shows that in most cases "pseudo" values maintain the relevant characteristics of the distribution of actual unit values. Overall, we conclude that "pseudo" unit values are better than aggregate price indexes for sound demand and welfare analysis.
