This descriptive research was intended to describe the eighth grade students' ability in using connectors in a recount text at SMPN 9 Jember. The number of population was around 240 students from class VIII A up to VIII F which were chosen purposively by proportional random sampling. This research used 20% of students from each class. So, the respondents were 40 students. The data were obtained through a guided reading test, documentation, and interview. The collected data were analyzed by using a descriptive statistics. The result of the data analysis showed that the students' ability in using connectors in a recount text were categorized into fair for about 40% as many as 14 students, poor and failed that each took 30% as many as 14 and 12 students. Unfortunately, there were no students who got score between 70-79 and 80-100 under the category good and excellent. The omnipresence of 4Cs at tertiary education has shifted the attention of language classroom teachings toward the mastery of multifaceted intelligences. Resultant teaching praxis subsequently calls forth students’ high literacy, which affects the nature and extent of success and failure. This study strived to scrutinize how the 4Cs approach in Reading courses scaffolds students’ multidimensional 21st-century learning competencies. Data were collected through online survey and focus group discussion, with deductive and inductive content analysis subsequently operative. The findings have shed lights on how 4Cs-based reading instructions help teachers to create learning environment commensurate with the demand of 21st-century learning, which aids students’ learning in gaining metacognitive tools for high literacy. With clear framework of collaborative work and scaffolding, teachers can trigger and further direct students’ achievement goals and social goals towards high literacy.

In this study, the research team studied the role of inventory management on the financial performance in some selected manufacturing companies in Mogadishu with the major objective of the study is to determine the inventory management practices used in manufacturing firms and to investigate the relationship between inventory management and financial performance in manufacturing firms. The research team selected 72 respondents with the use of questionnaire as instrument and data was analyzed using both descriptive and correlation statistics of mean and frequency (percentage) for SPSS. After gathering and analyzing data, the study found that there is significant positive relationship between the inventory management and financial performance where r=0.683.

Flavonols derivatives of 2'-hydroxycalone have been synthesized under basic condition (KOH). The structures of all compounds were characterized based on the interpretation of spectroscopic data including HPLC, UV, FTIR, NMR and HRMS. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH assay which showed that the flavonol 2'-hydroxycalone derivative was potentially active as antioxidants with IC50 values <1000 µg / mL.

Digital storytelling is the telling of stories using computer-based tools to tell stories. It combines the art of telling stories with a variety of multimedia, including graphics, audio, video, and Web publishing. In the field of education, teachers and their students, from early childhood classrooms through graduate school, are using digital storytelling in many different content areas and across a wide range of grade levels. The purpose of this article is to explain the way how the digital storytelling can be created. There are five steps in creating digital storytelling in this workshop. 1. Determine Topic and Write a Script, 2. Collect Digital Resources, 3. Select Content and Develop a Storyboard, 4. Import, Record, Finalize, and 5. Share, Teach, Improve. The fact that today's students are mostly equipped with high level of digital literacy encourages English teachers to use the Internet as one of the teaching learning media. Moreover, the abundance of online materials for EFL students which are easily accessible makes the teachers' job much easier. However, these advantages do not come alone without any drawbacks that challenge the teachers in implementing effective online teaching-learning activities for the class and get the most of it. This paper highlights the challenges that the teachers face in implementing online learning for general English class during the short semester program and reveals students' perceptions on it as part of the reflection on the teaching-learning process. The unique characteristic of this program which is run only for one month requires the teacher creatively seeking effective activities for the class in order to meet the program requirement. The class shows that the students' performance during the online learning is better compared to the offline class. The students become more active as well as enthusiastically involved in posting thread and giving feedback to their classmates' thread. Although during the process the students show interest in joining the online discussion, the teacher still have difficulty in finding the strategy to measure the effectiveness of this mode of learning. The reflective writing written by the students identify some issues which mostly deal with their impressions in joining the online learning as well as their difficulties in performing during the teaching learning process. Some students even give suggestions for better improvement in the next application of online learning.

This research was intended to analyze the politeness strategy employed by the characters in expressing apology based on Brown and Levinson’s politeness strategies in the movie The Princess Diaries (2001). Designed as a descriptive-qualitative research, the data was analyzed by using the descriptive method where politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) was applied to see the types of politeness strategies. The data was taken from an American Comedy, Family and Romance movie entitled The Princess Diaries (2001). The result of the analysis showed that there were 15 utterances that can be classified as apologizing expression which were analyzed by using Brown and Levinson (1987) Politeness Strategies. Those 15 utterances were divided into 11 utterances using positive politeness and 4 utterances using negative politeness.
