Dina Nencini graduated in IUAV - Venice Institute of Architecture. PhD Doctorate in Architecture in DRCA Iuav Phd School (2003-05). She is Professor at the Faculty of Architecture - Sapienza University of Rome, and she is Coordinator of the PhD School - DRACo in Architecture and Construction.
In 2006 she collaborated with Franco Purini in the organization of the exhibition of Italian Pavilion at the X Venice Architecture Biennale.
She was curator of the exhibition and congress “Tradition / Innovation. Italy: architects, schools of architecture, research. Observatory on Italian research in architecture - under 50 year old architects” (2010).
The main research topic is the relationship between theoretical elaboration and design practice focused on the aspects of the construction of architectural form and the characters of permanence and transformation of architecture, meaning the architectural work as a result of the architect's singular ideation, at the same time, of the specific translation of a collective cultural context.
The research focuses on the relationship between architecture and city in the specific theme of the construction of the urban form, for which the study of Italian Piazzas was fundamental. The design experimentation has different fields of application: interest in themes in which the collective dimension is relevant predominates. Finally, Italian architecture is the main field of observation, study and re-reading.
Hers latest publication are: “Menegatti Nencini. Architecture 2000-2016” (2018) that collects and presents the projects of the architecture studio of which she is co-founder; “La Piazza. Reasons and meanings in Italian architecture” Christian Marinotti editor in Milan (2012). She is an editor of several national newspapers of architecture, in which she has published many essays and articles. She’s obtaining awards in many international competition of architecture. She has partecipate with drawings and projects in many exhibition at Gallery AAM - architecture and contemporary art in Rome; at the Italian Pavilion at the 10th Biennial of Architecture in Venice (2006); in the exhibition “City autographic” in Messina and Reggio Calabria (2010); in the exhibition “Roman Drawings” (2012).

What is the meaning of artistic language in today’s world?
Architecture, art among the arts, in the age of uninterrupted transformations of paradigms and expression codes, is mostly perceived as communication while in cities all over the world, construction continues by mediating public and private interests.
The legacy of modern culture is still influential, producing language within a field of aesthetic expression on the one hand logical-rational and the other intuitive-empathic. Language is transformed through neologisms, transcriptions, and experiments. Does each language live in its own time? Does the meaning of language change over time?
The hermeneutics of language is expressed either by (absolute or relative) intelligibility or by the construction of a consensus through the use of intermediate codes opening conceptual boundaries and multiple ways of representations. Adhesion to a linguistic expression does not occur thanks to the intelligibility of the language, and therefore consent is not obtained only through codifiable procedures.
In this brief framework, we can discuss whether architects still need to equip themselves with their own language, grammar, canons and codes. The conference aims to explore the languages of the arts at the present time through studies and research on genealogies, inventions, metamorphoses and contaminations, that have always characterized architectural and artistic cultures.
The theme of the conference presents three topic tracks:
a. genealogy / poetic
#order #neologisms #transcriptions
b. metamorphosis / actions
#transformations #mutations #collages
c. multiplicity / communication
#politics #media #intercodes
