Her main research activity is focused on diagnostic and static analysis of historical structures, mainly related to dimensional principles, with particular reference to the equilibrium theory combined to structural analysis for dome structures.

Particularly, the research activity has inspected, through in field study of the structures, the documents research, the numerical analyses and the laboratory tests, the following aspects:
- historical and archivist researches on the static-architectonic evolutions and on evolution of disorders phenomena in monumental buildings;
- structural diagnose and identification, comprehensive of elaboration and interpretation of data from automatic monitoring systems;
- stability analysis

Una ricerca può cominciare in molti modi. Questa comincia dall'errore e dalle sue correzioni. Sem... more Una ricerca può cominciare in molti modi. Questa comincia dall'errore e dalle sue correzioni. Sembra un buon punto di partenza quando si vogliano indagare le ragioni di una forma costruttiva, la cupola, e le sue evoluzioni; ancora di più, se lo scopo della ricerca è quello di cercare di capire quando esattamente, l'intuizione degli antichi costruttori si sia trasformata da bella pratica in sapere matematico, e poi in Scienza del costruire. Punto focale di questo studio è lo stato dell'arte nella valutazione dei meccanismi di dissesto delle fabbriche cupolate, esaminando, in un percorso a metà tra storia e scienza, diversi approcci nella soluzione di calcolo. Partendo dal dato storico, l'obiettivo è rielaborare criticamente la diversa concezione strutturale, dal Rinascimento ad oggi, in cui le cupole occupano una posizione privilegiata. Il fine è determinare quel compromesso, necessario quando si affronti lo studio di un edificio storico, tra calcolo e regola sperimentale, che ha guidato la costruzione degli edifici antichi e che quindi può rappresentare uno strumento per la loro comprensione e la loro conservazione.

Proceeding under the assumption that restorers need to become more involved in the definition of ... more Proceeding under the assumption that restorers need to become more involved in the definition of the most advanced management tools for historic buildings, this paper aims to offer a contribution to the “informative” feature of the H-BIM methodology. Indeed, over the past few years, the issues addressed by scholars mostly concerned surveying and modelling techniques, whereas the organization of external data within the virtual model has rarely been considered. The necessity of defining a new operative tool for the maintenance of the wooden chain encircling the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore represented an occasion to develop an informative model that attempts to confer centrality to the knowledge processas a whole. Attention was thus focused on the articulation of the informative apparatus to be associated to the 3D model, as well as to its practical implications in terms of conservation.

Antonio Cocconcelli and built between 1816 and 1821 over the Taro River (near Parma, Northern Italy), is a very important monument, both from a cultural and strategic point of view. This 20 arches masonry bridge reaches the length of nearly 600 meters and constitutes a very interesting case study, not only for the technical and structural issues related to its restoration and use (with increased traffic loads) but also for the role that geometry played in its history and stability. In this paper, a compared analysis on the historical ‘proportional theory’ and the constructive features of this ancient bridge is proposed. The last surveys and inspections carried out on the wooden tie-rods encircling the two domes of t... more The last surveys and inspections carried out on the wooden tie-rods encircling the two domes of the Baptistery of San Giovanni and of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, promoted by the Opera del Duomo of Florence, allow to make new considerations on these monuments and on the effectiveness of these strengthening techniques. In this paper, the evolution of the cracking pattern of San Giovanni Baptistery, combined to the stress measurements carried out (CNR-IVALSA laboratory) on the tie-rods systems, is analyzed. In addition, a brief comparison with the typology of wooden (and also &quot; hidden &quot;) tie-rods inserted in Santa Maria del Fiore dome is presented in order to better understand their fundamental role in the conservation process of these great structures. Numerical analyses, carried out considering both simplified approaches and refined finite element models, are employed to deepening the effectiveness of the &quot; hidden &quot; tie-rods.

Mingguang He et al review the clinical applications of ultrasound biomicroscopy for the anterior segment, while Sathyan et al provide insight into the applications of optical coherence tomography in glaucoma diagnosis, and Kaushik et al review the uses of ocular response analyzer in determining corneal hysteresis. Khanna and Ichhpujani detail on the use of low vision devices in glaucoma, while Khurana et al give a perspective on drug-induced glaucoma. The Ex-PRESS shunt, a new microshunt for glaucoma surgery, is presented by Angmo et al in the treatment of neovascular glaucoma. We hope that the reader will find the articles of interest and help them in improving the standard of care in glaucoma patients.
