The pendulum oscillation are naturally subject to damping, due to various dissipation phenomena. In our case the mean energy is maintained constant by a pulsed magnetic field, produced by an electromagnet, placed at the centre, attracting the bob every quarter of a period. An optical sensor at the centre switches off the magnetic field when the bob passes through the equilibrium point.
The oscillation plane precession is monitored by 180 LED that are sequentially switched on: every LED marks a time interval of about 10 minutes

The epi-ready state was studied by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The quality of the substrates stored for 4-12 months was tested by growing an epilayer by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy and by characterizing it with high-resolution X-ray diffraction and photoluminescence techniques. Evidence that one of our technologies could be adopted industrially is given.

The fascinating aspect is that starting from features that Nature and AFM technique provided, i.e. the structure recorded by just grayscale acquisition, can be transferred by the artist to a piece of NanoArt. All the images in this exhibition were made by Stanislav Leesment, using afm data obtained by different authors quoted within the text.

In compressively strained films the same dependence for the residual strain vs the film thickness as for the InGaAs/GaAs is found whereas a different strain release rate and different extended defects are found in tensile stressed InGaAs alloy. In particular in tensile stressed samples, grooves, planar defects and cracks are present in addition to the interfacial network of misfit dislocations. The correlation between the observed planar defects and the mechanisms of strain relaxation in the case of tensile strained layers is discussed.

A pendulum coupled to a low-friction rotary sensor offers variable length, variable mass, variable oscillation plane (to change the effective gravitational restoring torque) and two different kind of damping torque: "dynamic friction" (almost constant) and "viscous" proportional to the angular velocity. Simple models implemented in common spreadsheets allow to compare the experimental results with the theoretical predictions.

The role of the hydrodynamic mass is also investigated, and various effects on the motion of different bodies due to the presence of air are discussed.
