This study is aimed at ascertaining women’s perception of the impact of information and communication technologies on access to maternal and child health information and its implication on sustainable development. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting University of Lagos Teaching Hospital and subsequently, the three clinics (Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics Outpatient, and Antenatal clinics) where the needed groups could be seen. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection while SPSS statistical package was used for data analysis. The study revealed that the women perceive information and communication technologies to have a positive impact on their access to maternal and child health information while the key technological facilities used by the respondents in accessing maternal and child health information were mobile phones and social media tools such as Facebook, YouTube, blogs and Twitter. It was also found that irregular power supply, poor Internet access, and ignorance of the media that transmit maternal and child health information were the key factors that militate against effective access to maternal and child health information using communication technologies. The implication of this result on sustainable development is discussed and recommendations made.

E-publishing is engendered by the introduction of information and communication technology (ICT), this development has brought about increase in the number of scholarly communication in circulation. The awareness and rate of e-publishing differs among faculties, it based on this that this study was carried out to survey the situation of e-publishing and open access of librarians in three federal universities in Southern Nigeria, five research questions were formulated to guide the study. The methodology adopted is descriptive survey, questionnaire was given to a total population of 64 librarians consisting of librarians from the institutions understudy, the data collected from the study shows that though librarians are aware of e-publishing but they have not being publishing as should have been expected in University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) out of the 95% that aware of electronic publishing only 30% have published there articles electronically, in University of Lagos (UNILAG) 100% indicated that they have published electronically while in University of Benin (UNIBEN) 45.4% percent indicated yes while 54.5% said they have not published their articles electronically. On availability of open access it was discovered that they have access as a total of 84% from UNN responded Yes, UNILAG 100% said Yes while in UNIBEN 90.9%. The following problems based on their scoring militating against e-publishing and open access in Nigeria. Inadequate power supply; inadequate computer terminals; inadequate funding for subscription payment.

The barrier to information flow to them was also identified. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The result showed that the rural women do not have access to adequate information because the libraries as well as the local government, who this responsibility rests on, have been inefficient. The various modules contained in the software (Circulation, Patrons, Advanced Search/OPAC, Cataloguing, Serials, Acquisition, Report and Tools) and the various specific services that they can be used to perform were exhaustively discussed. The paper also briefly discussed library software and open source software (OSS) initiative respectively. It explained the various characteristics including the numerous benefits such as; availability of source code, free redistribution, stability, less expensive, etc, associated with the use of OSS. It concluded by stating that the provision of current, timely and easy access to information even, remotely, is a task which libraries and librarians cannot ignore if they want to remain relevant in today’s information environment and therefore recommend that rather than spent futile years waiting for funds to acq...
The rate of maternal mortality and morbidity in Nigeria had continued to be alarming notwithstand... more The rate of maternal mortality and morbidity in Nigeria had continued to be alarming notwithstanding government’s institution of intervention programmes focused on enlightening women on the need for prenatal care, postnatal care, family planning, and essential obstetric care. The need to find a lasting solution to this problem calls for a study that is not just focused on the medical factors but examines sociodemographic factors that are likely to predict access and utilization of maternal health information. The Objective of this therefore is to determine sociodemographic variables as predictors of accessibility and utilization of maternal health information, including maternal health knowledge among women in Lagos, Nigeria. The survey research method with purposive sampling technique was adopted in the study. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The theoretical framework ...

The major objective of the study was to identify the role of curriculum in the training of creative and innovative librarians. The paper demonstrates that curriculum re-assessment in library schools is necessary for the mastery of knowledge needed for problem solving on which the basis of creativity and innovation lies. As a result, the paper concludes by recommending amongst others, that the curriculum of library schools be reviewed taking into consideration the current job requirements of librarians as this would empower librarians apply knowledge to problem solving, thereby bringing about creativity and innovation in library services. Library administrators should also encourage innovation and creativity by ensuring an enabling environment where staff is free to experiment with technology without fear of reproof.
