Robert Thomas Bachmann
Prof. Dr. Robert Thomas Bachmann PhD CSci MEnvSci AChemE is a trained process and environmental engineer specialising in sustainable biomass utilisation. After graduating from Wismar University, Germany, he completed his master and PhD at Sheffield University, UK. He was then working as Scientific Officer at Kroto Research Institute, UK, training, and co-supervising postgraduate student, operating analytical equipment such as AAS,ICP-MS, TGA, FTIR as well as optical microscopes while conducting research on acid mine drainage treatment in collaboration with Aberystwyth University, Wales. Robert was then offered a lecturer post at Universiti Kuala Lumpur where he currently teaches Introduction to Renewable Energy, Environmental Microbiology and Chemistry, Pollution Prevention and Waste Minimization. He helped to establish the first international joined master program in green and energy efficient buildings in Malaysia and serves as program coordinator. Robert has supervised 100 undergraduate, 20 master and 8 PhD students, obtained national and international grants in excess of 1 million Malaysian Ringgit, and provided consultancy services to BSW Energy Ltd., Top Fruits Sdn Bhd, BOC Ltd, Plantations International and PFS Energy Malaysia. He was awarded the Anugerah Pendidik Terbilang MARA (Distinguished Educator Award) and won several prices for best poster, paper and presentation awards. Robert is a panel member to assess fundamental research grant proposals and examined master and PhD theses from Nottingham University Malaysia Campus, Punjab University (Pakistan), Anna University (India), and Universiti Putra Malaysia.
