Simone Barani
Dr. Barani has been working as researcher at the University of Genoa since 2017. He is professor of “Seismic Hazard and Risk” within the framework of the master degree course of “Engineering for Natural Risk Management”.
In the period 2004-2016, Dr. Barani worked at the same university as research fellow.
During his academic career, he has conducted a wide range of geohazard projects. His experience includes:
1) Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and seismic hazard disaggregation for identification of earthquake scenarios.
2) Analysis and selection of strong ground motion time histories.
3) Seismotectonics and seismic strain rate evaluations.
4) Identification and analysis of earthquake clusters and seismicity patterns.
5) Ground response studies via numerical analyses and experimental approaches.
6) Earthquake-induced landslide hazard analysis.
7) Geophysical prospection for soil characterization by using methods like seismic refraction, MASW (Multichannel Analysis of Surface Wave), ReMi (Refraction Microtremor), and seismic array.
He is author of more than 20 articles on international peer-reviewed journals and of 12 articles on international conference proceedings. Moreover, he is author of 20 works published on Italian journals, book, or conference proceedings.
In addition to previous research activities, Dr. Barani is co-managing director of GEAmb S.r.l., a spin-off company born at the University of Genoa from the scientific and professional experience of Dr. Barani and other researchers.

variability in site amplification is presented. To fulfill the scope of the work, the study focuses on three test sites in Italy characterized by different geological conditions and seismicity levels: Mirandola and Soncino in the Po Plain (northern Italy) and Peglio in central Italy.
