Especially web developers favour RDF serialization formats like RDFa and JSON-LD. However, the visualization of large portions of RDF data in an appealing way is still a cumbersome task. RDF visualizers in general are not targeting the Web as usage scenario or simply display the complex RDF graph directly rather than applying a human friendly facade. Balloon Synopsis tries to overcome these issues by providing an easy-to-use RDF visualizer based on HTML and JavaScript. For an ease integration, it is implemented as jQuery-plugin offering a node-centric RDF viewer and browser with automatic Linked Data enhancement in a modern tile design.

Due to a lack of comparability and reliability of published primary research data, this becomes more and more time-consuming leading to contradicting facts, as has been shown for ad-hoc retrieval [1]. The CODE project aims at contributing to a Linked Science Data Cloud by integrating unstructured research information with semantically represented research data. Through crowdsourcing techniques, data centric tasks like data extraction, integration and analysis in combination with sustainable data marketplace concepts will establish a sustainable, high-impact ecosystem.

Selfish peers, which deviate from the collaborative protocol to increase personal benefit, may also harmfully affect the goals of networked architectures. Securing the collaborative protocol would be an option, however, this may not be always possible or wanted. Then, a post-hoc assessment, deployed by the system designer, could monitor the correct behaviour of the participants without affecting the actual system's functioning. Due to limited resources, a complete monitoring is not possible: typically monitoring is done by sampling by sampling so that misbehaviour in some case can go undetected. At the same time, a selfish peer's decision to violate also depends also on the monitoring rate of the inspecting parties. This forms an interdependent interaction landscape, which corresponds to a class of games known as Inspection Games. In this paper, we discuss the practicability of Inspection Games for networked architectures for system analysis and design. To this end, develop generalized Inspection Game versions up to m inspectors and n inspectees, starting from a simple two-player game; we further provide solutions (i.e. Nash equilibria) for all games. Afterwards, these games and solutions are adapted towards an application to networked architectures. This is done by extending them to the possibility of false negatives (the performed inspection on a player's behaviour does not detect a deviation from the protocol which has actually occurred, due to the intrinsic failability of the inspection technique).

Such videos are enriched by additional content. Possible forms of additional content are plaintext, richtext, images and videos. Interactivity is implemented based upon selection buttons which allow the user to follow different plotlines. Additional forms of interactivity are realized as clickable objects in the video and a table of contents for the video. The software provides a tool for manually cutting videos and an automated shot detection. The non-linear flow of the video can be designed using a scene graph with fork nodes. Editors for text and images support the user in adding information to the video. A finished video project is exported to an XML file with a specific schema and Flash video (flv) files. The player processes the XML file, plays the interactive video and shows additional contents. It can be customized to the requirements of the presentation of the video and the corporate design of the homepage the video is embedded in.

To address this issue, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) launched the Media Annotations Working Group. One output of this group is the API for Media Resource, which defines a unified access to media resources on the Web. This paper introduces the demonstration of the reference implementation of this API as a browser plugin together with a concrete web based show case.

These might be available in form of raw material (shots) or need to be extracted from existing films. In the latter case, the scenes have to be defined by the author in a time-consuming process. A semi-automated scene extraction helps the user perform this task. Detected shots and scenes may be corrected in a graphical user interface which is integrated in our authoring tool. To provide satisfying results in the automated scene detection process our main goal was to improve an existing algorithm. Different shot comparison functions were evaluated regarding the overall performance index. The commonly used color histogram intersection was outperformed by a combination of χ 2-distance and complexity comparison, which unexpectedly attained the best results.

In the first part, a brief introduction on the subject of quality assessment and the development of the MPEG-4 SVC CODEC is given. After that, the used test methodologies are described in detail, followed by an explanation of the actual test scenarios. The main part of this work concentrates on the performance analysis of the MPEG-4 SVC CODEC - both objective and subjective. Please note that this document is only a shortened version of the assessment. Further experimental results can be found in the extended version available at the Computing Research Repository (CoRR).

The internal query system of the original framework has been replaced with a new query engine which generates multimedia queries using the MPEG Query Format (MPQF) standard to achieve platform independence. To formulate such queries the Mobile Multimedia Composer has been developed for mobile devices. Its touchscreen-friendly user interface provides extensive search functionalities including keyword search, technical parameters and semantic concepts. Additionally, the system features an editor which lets users formulate complex multimedia queries while offering a visualization in the form of a tree structure.

We consider the operator problem and introduce a new class of execution strategies called Linear-oriented Bushy Trees (LBT). Compared to the related approach of the General Bushy Trees (GBT) a significant complexity reduction of the operator ordering problem can be derived theoretically and demonstrated experimentally (e.g. compared with GBTs, LBTs authorize optimization time improvement that can reach up to 49%) without losing quality. Finally we demonstrate that existing commercial parallel query optimizers need little extension mod ifications in order to handle LBTs.

Unfortunately, the integration and usage of semantic information is not feasible by everyone. Hence, a large number of Semantic Web applications are lacking and the potential of the semantic knowledge remains unexploited. We propose balloon Synopsis, an easy-to-use jQuery plugin to integrate Semantic Web information in a website. It provides a modern visualisation and browser for RDF information including automatic remote information enhancing, similarity analysis and ontology templates. Balloon Synopsis enables web developers to rely on known tools and programming language to benefit of the global knowledge graph. 11

We first describe a method for extracting a global semantic representation of a search query log and then show how we can use it to semantically extract the user interests. The global representation is composed of a taxonomy that organizes query terms based on generalization/specialization ("is a") semantic relations and of a function to measure the semantic distance between terms. We then define a query terms clustering algorithm that is applied to the log representation to extract user interests. The evaluation has been done on large real-life logs of a popular search engine.

The standard supports applications to exchange, identify, and filter multimedia contents based on MPEG-7 descriptions. However, especially mobile applications that deal with MPEG-7 suffer from limited bandwidth, low computational power, and limited battery life. In this document, we describe an index system adopted from database systems that allows filter mechanisms and random access to encoded MPEG-7 streams and which overcome the limitation of the network and the consuming terminal. Encoding is applied in order to reduce the data rate of the XML documents to be transmitted. The indexed parts of the encoded streams can be accessed without the need to deserialize the complete stream. Furthermore, the system is evaluated and results of the experimental evaluation are discussed.
