In order to establish the correct dimensions of any device that works with alternative energy it ... more In order to establish the correct dimensions of any device that works with alternative energy it is necessary to evaluate the available resources. Daily solar radiation was measured in Santo Domingo city using a pyranometer. Simultaneously, for every day, the time evolution of the total solar irradiance was determined. The relationship between solar radiation and total solar irradiance was analyzed for a defined period, obtaining the average hourly clearness index global to statistically predict the solar irradiance that will reach the surface on our location considering the cloudiness based on the Julian day. This parameter will enable a more exact simulation of the operation of any device working with solar energy in Santo Domingo, particularly the solar refrigerator of our research group.

This work presents an algorithm able to simulate the heating of a solar collector throughout the ... more This work presents an algorithm able to simulate the heating of a solar collector throughout the day. The discussed collector is part of a solar adsorption refrigerator, and is used to regenerate the activated carbon contained inside a cylindrical recipient (absorber), which is located in the focal line of a parabolic trough concentrator. The developed algorithm takes into account all the transfer mechanisms when analyzing the heat transfers taking place between the collector's components and the environment, as well as the transfer mechanisms towards the absorber's interior. The temperature evolution for the collector's elements is obtained, and the model is validated by comparing the experimentally measured surface temperature of the absorber with the one determined by the algorithm. The experimental data were gathered from similar collectors in two different scenarios: Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). The model is satisfactorily validated with experimental data.

The phenomenon of multiple localization in a Mach-Zender interferometer illuminated by a system o... more The phenomenon of multiple localization in a Mach-Zender interferometer illuminated by a system of incoherent equidistant linear sources is studied. The relation between multilocalization and diffraction at a grating of period equal to the spacing between the sources composing the illumination system is analysed. Using the former relation an adjustment method is developed for interferometers of separated beams. This method enables the interference fringes at the different focalization planes to be seen without readjusting the alignment. This enables to observe perturbations at different planes with the simple focalization of the camera.

En este contexto se aborda la necesidad de contar con un sistema de enfriamiento y conservación de leche de cabra. En el proyecto “Heladeras Solares” se utiliza un modo de desarrollar innovaciones tecnológicas donde, a partir de la gestión, se promueven relaciones generativas entre diversos actores del territorio. La experiencia realizada desde fines de 2009 hasta la actualidad (julio de 2011) permite afirmar que la conformación de una estructura de sostén con actores locales fue la que garantizó en una primera etapa la construcción de los prototipos experimentales, y permite pensar que en una segunda, será la que posibilitará la difusión y mantención en el tiempo de las “Heladeras Solares”.The paper describes an ongoing experience located in the northwes...

Dominicana) FONDOCYT 2008-2-E1-010 RESUMEN: En este artículo se establece que la orientación del colector de un refrigerador solar por adsorción, puede cambiarse a partir de la orientación clásica de los dispositivos de captación solar, hasta unos 20º hacia el este, sin que se modifique de manera apreciable el rendimiento del equipo. Esto se debe a que no sólo hace falta calentar el colector, sino que es necesario al mismo tiempo condensar el metanol desorbido, lo que resulta más sencillo durante las horas de menor temperatura ambiente puesto que el condensador del dispositivo emite el calor resultante de la condensación al medio ambiente.

ABSTRACT To recognize patterns, correlation and deconvolution techniques are frequently used. The... more ABSTRACT To recognize patterns, correlation and deconvolution techniques are frequently used. The deconvolution yields an identification signal with maximum discrimination and extreme sensibility for small fluctuations in intensity and shape. The phase only filter has the advantage of been more easy to implement in laboratory and it can yield a recognition signal even when object and filter are only slightly similar. The autocorrelation exhibits the latter behavior to a greater extent. In some cases what is of interest is not the equality but the similarity of shapes, e.g., when objects which appear in a fragmented way are to be recognized. In the present article a method to adjust the degree of acceptable similarity between filter and object is proposed and the object is recognized by means of a simple change in a coefficient appearing in the numerical processing.

An amplitude-division two-beam interferometer illuminated by a quasi-monochromatic, spatially inc... more An amplitude-division two-beam interferometer illuminated by a quasi-monochromatic, spatially incoherent, and periodic source yields multiple localization planes of interference fringes. If a thick transmission sample with a few localized phase disturbances in various layers is placed in the interferometer, the disturbances in a layer can be detected, making its images through the two arms coincide with a chosen localization plane. Different layers can be analyzed by means of shifting the localization plane by a variation of the source period without any other changes in the device. Here we illustrate this method by applying it to a shearing interferometer, a classical Wollaston prism placed between crossed polarizers. Experimental images of different observation planes are obtained, and they are in good agreement with the theoretical expectations.
