One of the main factors of infective endocarditis in humans is the concomitant presence of periodontal disease, ...

Haematological and biochemical parameters of wild capuchin monkeys in Brasília, Federal District—Brazil, 2020

In this study, some capuchin monkeys were captured using traps, followed by safe biological pro- cedures for their overall health analysis, based on specific haematological and bio- chemical tests of blood samples.
Methods: Blood was collected from a total of 17 monkeys for the determination of parameters, namely packed cell volume (PCV), leucocytes, erythrocytes, platelets and triglycerides. Statistical analyses for average values, median, standard deviation and range were performed.
Results: These parameters were set based on the minimum and maximum values obtained from the blood tests. Data are presented in tabulated form.
Conclusions: Capture procedures were based on animal safety analysis for free-living animals and would help future studies on wild animals. The collected samples used in this study suggested the animals to be apparently healthy in their habitat.

In this project it was verified the efficiency of the portable device (Accutrend Plus, Roche Diagnostics) in swine biochemistry. The outdoor pig production system is located in Fazenda Água Limpa (FAL) from the University of Brasília. Tests for glucose, lactate, cholesterol and triglycerides were performed at the farm with the portable device. Total blood samples were obtained in EDTA(k 3), sodium fluorine, and clot activator tubes for the biochemical tests (Biochemistry Analyzer Bioplus, BIO-2000) in the Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory of the University of Brasilia. A total of 12 piglets; eight barrows and four gilts, weight of 8.10 ± 18.30 kg and 45 ± 50 days of age. Statistical analyses adding normal distribution by Kolmogorv-Smimov and Shapiro-Wilk were performed. Tstudent test have not shown normality for triglycerides and lactate (p < 0,01). Therefore, the biochemistry portable device analyzer is unsuitable to an outdoor performance.
