This method is kind of the low-maintenance way. Google “fodder system” if you are interested in pre-soaking the grains and germinating indoors. 

Here we simply bought a bag of whole grain oats. 50 lbs for $20. Planted it in their chicken run and sectioned off the area for a few weeks. You could also make covers to do sections of your chicken’s run but here we did it the easiest way possible. 

Oat grass is very nutritious for chickens and also ducks! But it will only grow outside during spring and summer months because it’s an annual grass. 

Curious to see how long it takes them to mow it down!
