At the Department of Political Science and Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, I teach the science of religion, the philosophy of religion and ethics. In the science of religion I deal with the history of religious thought, the theory of religion, the aesthetics of religion, the question of the state and religion, and the analysis of religious texts. In addition to standard courses of the science of religion and philosophy of religion, I also teach religion aesthetics, "State and religion", the courses "Life and Death in the History of Religion" and "The Philosophy of Love". I also deal with the philosophical transformation of religious ideas into modern thinking and the ancient sources of the philosophy of history.Within the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague (Centre for Classical Studies), I deal with early Jewish thought, early Christian literature, and the links between Judaism and early Christianity.

lässt sich gut dazu benutzen, um einen Teil der Prophetiegeschichte zu rekonstruieren. In dieser ... more lässt sich gut dazu benutzen, um einen Teil der Prophetiegeschichte zu rekonstruieren. In dieser Perspektive zeigt sich, dass Flavius Josephus einerseits an der Tradition des hellenistischen Judentums teilhat, die er auch der antiken Leserschaft zu vermitteln versucht. Er steht andererseits aber zugleich im Einklang mit der jüdischen Vorstellung von Prophetie, obwohl er kein ganzheitliches Bild von ihr zeichnet. Aus religionsgeschichtlicher Sicht stellt er eine sehr gewichtige Quelle dar, die man jedoch stets auch kritisch hinterfragen sollte. Vor dem Hintergrund der Geschichte des frühen Judentums in hellenistischer und römischer Zeit ist die Bedeutung der Prophetie, sowohl der historischen als auch der literarischen, nicht zu übersehen. Es sei aber auch darauf hingewiesen, dass mit zeitlicher Distanz zur Geschichte der klassischen Prophetie eine neue Etappe der Prophetie anbrach, die als spätes Folgephänomen, als eine Art Nachspiel erscheint. Ein Nachtrag zu einer bewundernswerten Geschichte. Der große Einfluss der klassischen Prophetie und das damit verbundene umfangreiche literarische Werk sind unbestritten. Dagegen hat die Prophetie der späteren Zeit nichts Vergleichbares hervorgebracht. Die klassische prophetische Literatur bereitet der Exegese durch ihre Komplexität immer neue Schwierigkeiten, jedoch liegt uns die eigentliche Tradition der späteren Prophetie nicht unmittelbar vor. Es gibt einige Analogien zwischen der vorhellenistischen und späteren Prophetie, insbesondere in Bezug auf Personen, die als inspirierte göttliche Sprecher galten. Zunächst soll jedoch zur grundlegenden Orientierung geklärt werden, was hier unter Prophetie verstanden wird. Es geht um einen ganzen Komplex prophetischer Phänomene, die in der Kommunikation zwischen einer Gottheit und einem göttlichen Beauftragten bestehen, der zwischen Gott und den Menschen vermittelt und insbesondere den göttlichen Willen anderen mitteilt. Diese Rolle war in früheren Zeiten offenbar über mehrere Jahrhunderte konstant und mit einem gewissen Maß an Respekt verbunden, auch wenn viele Propheten auch Gegner hatten. Im Vergleich dazu zeigt Josephusʼ Darstellung Anzeichen von Unsicherheit bezüglich dessen, was wirklich als Prophetie angesehen werden kann; doch gerade das macht deutlich, dass es wichtig ist, sich mit diesem Thema zu befassen. Interpersonal and Social Sensibility in Slapstick from the Perspective of Religious History

When one watches slapstick films, the action, the ridicule, the anarchist, and even the brutal co... more When one watches slapstick films, the action, the ridicule, the anarchist, and even the brutal components easily overshadow, or at least detract value from, the ethically positive moments. Nonetheless, these positive moments appear to be of particular importance to viewers, as evidenced by the reflections on slapstick film by Petr Král (1941*): "Where the most 'serious' silent films prize strong individuals, [.. .] from the beginning, slapstick aligns itself with the weak" (1998, 59). 1 Král's thesis necessitates further investigation. Where does this characteristic inclination toward the weak and its inherent ethical dimension register in slapstick film? To pursue this question in its relation to the religious aspects of slapstick, this paper will analyze Charlie Chaplin's (1889-1977) late silent movie Modern Times (1936) and David Green's film Godspell (1973), a musical with slapstick moments. In order to interpret both films, analogies will be drawn from the slapstick of Judeo-Christian religious history. These films evidence the aforementioned characteristic inclination toward the weak, which is regarded as a standard feature of Christian religious doctrine. In short, the goal of this investigation will be to explain the connections among slapstick, religion, and interpersonal and social sensibilities, validating the hypothesis that sensibility and laughter exist in a reciprocal relationship in the context of slapstick cinema.

This study focuses on the Pseudo-Clementine writings as examples of Jewish-Christian literature b... more This study focuses on the Pseudo-Clementine writings as examples of Jewish-Christian literature between the second and fourth centuries CE. In view of their mutual antagonism and friendship, it interprets them as an attempt at orthodoxy, an instance of the line which led from Paul’s mission to the Nicaean Council. On the one hand, the Pseudo-Clementines introduce peculiar rationalist Christology, while at the same time opposing both Gnosticism and paganism, as well as coming to terms with other early Christian schools. They also use the image of family to represent the Christian community connected by love, in which relationships acquire a new quality as compared to friendship.
